Entry Level Distribution Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Distribution Designer to join our team in North Carolina. The role involves supporting power distribution infrastructure upgrades and storm hardening projects across the state. This position requires a blend of engineering calculations and design work, including the replacement of deteriorating cables, transitioning overhead lines to underground, reconductoring distribution lines, and replacing aging poles. The designer will perform structural analysis of poles, guying, cable pulling, and coordinate electric demand, fault currents, and protective devices.

• Conduct engineering calculations and design work for power distribution infrastructure upgrades.
• Replace deteriorating cables and move overhead lines to underground settings.
• Reconduct existing distribution lines and replace aging poles.
• Perform structural analysis of poles and guying.
• Coordinate electric demand, fault currents, and protective devices.

• Minimum of 2 years of electric utility distribution design experience.
• Proficiency in distribution design, BOUD, Maximo, Smallworld, Bentley Open Utility Designer, and MicroStation.
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in the electric utility industry.
• Working knowledge of primary and secondary distribution systems and utility standards.
• Understanding of basic engineering theories and principles.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals.

• Prefer 2 years of experience on the Duke system for distribution design.
• Experience in interacting with customers and developers for distribution projects.
• EIT/Passed Engineering Fundamentals Exam.

The position is based in a Wilmington coworking space, two blocks from the river and the ocean. The work environment is collaborative, with a team of designers in a smaller office setting. The role offers a hybrid schedule, allowing work from home on Mondays and Fridays after an initial 1-3 month period. The team is engaged and operates in a positive office environment, offering opportunities for growth and development.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilmington, NC.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
