Job Title: Embedded Software Engineer in Columbus, IN

Job Description

We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join our team due to project demand for 2025. The initial project involves supporting a communication bridge for a new Forklift Product. The device interacts with data between two CANBus systems. Initially, you will be in a supporting role, but there will be opportunities to take ownership of projects moving forward.

Responsibilities

• Support the testing of fork trucks, which may require the use of test equipment or driving the forklift.
• Collaborate in a hybrid role with an emphasis on being in-office, especially during the first few months (5 days a week onsite).
• Develop and maintain embedded software applications using Embedded C programming.
• Work with vehicle communication protocols such as CANopen or J1939.
• Utilize test instrumentation and data acquisition tools.
• Contribute to multiple work streams and eventually take ownership of projects.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor of Engineering degree.
• 2-7 years of experience in Embedded C programming.
• Experience with bare metal systems and knowledge of RTOS.
• Application design experience, preferably from a smaller company with diverse job functions.
• Experience with vehicle communication protocols such as CANopen or J1939, or other communication protocols (TCPIP, serial communication protocols).
• Ability to write and architect complete embedded applications.
• Capability to operate and drive a forklift for hands-on testing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with control systems software (state machines, programming patterns within controlling things).
• Proficiency with version control systems like GIT.
• Python scripting experience.

Work Environment

The role is primarily based in an office environment, but may require visits to the test area. The position is hybrid with an initial emphasis on being onsite for 5 days a week to facilitate team collaboration and project familiarity. The environment encourages hands-on testing and direct involvement with the forklifts.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
