Job Description
A national consulting firm is seeking a Senior Electrical or Mechanical Estimator to join its MEP Cost Management team. In this role, you support large, high‑impact construction programs across multiple market sectors and play a key part in shaping project budgets, influencing cost decisions, and guiding clients through complex scopes and evolving designs. You focus on conceptual and early‑phase estimating for electrical or mechanical (HVAC/process) systems while collaborating closely with internal teams and external stakeholders. The position offers remote flexibility within the United States, with a preference for professionals who can collaborate with regional offices and project teams as needed.
Responsibilities
- Lead conceptual, schematic, and detailed cost estimates for electrical or mechanical (HVAC/process) scopes across multiple project phases.
- Support budget development, cost planning, feasibility studies, and value engineering activities to optimize project outcomes.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews, workload planning, and task management for all estimating deliverables.
- Reconcile change orders, invoices, and cost impacts with general contractors, subcontractors, and third‑party partners.
- Provide post‑contract cost support, including bid analysis, change management, and cost impact evaluation.
- Participate in risk and value management evaluations to identify opportunities and mitigate potential cost issues.
- Mentor and support estimators and estimating technicians to strengthen their technical and procedural knowledge.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships through clear communication and reliable, data‑driven cost guidance.
- Prepare client‑facing reports, milestone estimates, and executive‑ready summaries that clearly communicate key cost insights.
- Engage with internal stakeholders, project controls teams, and leadership to ensure alignment on scope, budget, and schedule.
- Participate in peer reviews and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance estimating processes and standards.
- Stay informed on local market conditions, construction trends, and industry best practices to ensure accurate and current cost advice.
- Contribute to project management and construction management discussions by providing informed cost perspectives on commercial construction and process‑related work.
- Support the development and monitoring of project budgets, ensuring cost estimates align with overall project objectives.
- At least 5 years of experience in electrical or mechanical (HVAC/process) estimating or cost management.
- Strong background in conceptual estimating and early project planning for MEP and related scopes.
- Deep technical understanding of electrical or mechanical systems, scopes, and construction practices.
- Proven experience supporting large, complex construction projects across commercial or similar sectors.
- Ability to read and interpret construction schedules, drawings, and specifications.
- Advanced proficiency with cost estimating methods, tools, and processes used in MEP and construction estimation.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with modern estimating software platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex cost information clearly.
- Ability to analyze incomplete or evolving design information and provide clear, defensible cost guidance.
- Ability to perform at a high level in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment while managing multiple priorities.
- Experience working as an estimator, cost consultant, or in a similar MEP cost management capacity.
- Experience with quantity surveying or similar cost management disciplines.
- background in project management and construction management, particularly in commercial construction.
- Familiarity with process‑related construction projects and associated estimating requirements.
- Experience supporting project budgets from early planning through delivery in a consulting environment.
- Comfort collaborating with regional teams and stakeholders in a remote or distributed work setting.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development, including use of online education platforms.
This is a salaried, full‑time position designed around a 40‑hour workweek that promotes work‑life balance. The role is fully remote within the United States and aligned to a regional team, with an expectation of effective virtual collaboration with project teams and offices. You work primarily in a professional home‑office setting using modern estimating software, Microsoft Excel, and standard project controls tools to support MEP cost management. The organization offers paid time off (including vacation, holiday, and sick time), approximately 80 hours of PTO plus additional holidays, and access to medical, dental, and vision coverage.
