Job Title: EHS Specialist

Job Description

As an EHS Specialist, you will lead and manage site-wide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) training, compliance tracking, workforce qualification, and safety leadership initiatives. You will assess existing EHS programs to identify gaps in training, compliance, and documentation processes, and develop role-based training matrices and qualification programs across multiple business functions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve training compliance systems, tracking processes, and Learning Management System (LMS) utilization.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Facilities, Failure Analysis, and other functional groups to ensure employees receive required training and maintain qualifications.
  • Design, coordinate, and deliver EHS training programs through classroom, hands-on, and train-the-trainer formats.
  • Develop and facilitate safety leadership training programs for supervisors, managers, and senior leadership teams.
  • Conduct audits of training programs, qualification records, and compliance documentation to ensure regulatory adherence.
  • Maintain audit-ready training records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Support and lead incident investigations, near-miss reviews, and corrective action activities when required.
  • Identify training-related root causes and develop solutions to prevent incident recurrence.
  • Monitor and report training compliance rates, certification status, leadership engagement metrics, and training effectiveness.
  • Develop reporting tools and dashboards to provide visibility into EHS performance and compliance trends.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on strengthening safety culture, leadership accountability, and workforce readiness.
  • Partner with site leadership to align EHS training programs with operational goals and safety objectives.
  • Influence stakeholders across all levels of the organization to drive compliance and improve safety performance.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of Environmental Health & Safety experience within semiconductor, advanced manufacturing, high-tech manufacturing, R&D, or complex industrial environments.
  • Demonstrated experience building, implementing, improving, or transforming EHS training programs.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA and Cal-OSHA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing Learning Management Systems (LMS), training databases, compliance tracking tools, and qualification programs.
  • Proven ability to influence leaders, drive accountability, and gain buy-in across multiple departments.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills with both frontline employees and executive leadership.
  • Experience conducting compliance audits, gap assessments, and corrective action initiatives.
  • Experience supporting incident investigations and identifying training-related contributors to safety events.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Professional certifications such as CSP, ASP, CHST, or similar certifications preferred.
  • Experience supporting semiconductor manufacturing or highly regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of Human Performance and Organizational Performance (HOP) principles preferred.
  • Experience developing safety leadership programs and leadership accountability initiatives preferred.
  • Experience implementing train-the-trainer programs preferred.
  • Familiarity with structured investigation methodologies or similar root cause analysis tools preferred.
  • Experience supporting laser safety programs preferred.
  • Experience supporting electrical safety programs and Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) environments preferred.
  • Experience working with hazardous materials, chemical safety programs, and risk management processes preferred.
  • Self-starter capable of independent decision-making.

Work Environment

The role operates within a high-tech manufacturing and engineering environment, involving cross-functional interaction with Engineering, Operations, Facilities, and Leadership teams. The position involves a combination of office, classroom, and production floor activities, in a fast-paced environment requiring independent decision-making and collaboration.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $40.00/hr.
