Responsibilities
- Lead the design and coordination of DOT-related electric distribution projects, including road widening, bridge expansions, railroad projects, and other public infrastructure upgrades.
- Interpret and apply DOT plans, civil road drawings, and right-of-way (ROW) maps to develop accurate and constructible electric distribution designs.
- Serve as the primary liaison between DOT representatives, utility stakeholders, and contractors to ensure clear communication and alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
- Perform field data collection, site verification, and on-site assessments to validate existing conditions and inform design decisions.
- Develop complete construction packages for electric distribution relocation and new installations in accordance with NESC and DOT standards.
- Coordinate utility relocation efforts, including permitting, right-of-way activities, and compliance with applicable regulations.
- Participate in DOT meetings, design reviews, and pre-construction planning sessions to represent distribution design interests and resolve issues proactively.
- Conduct safety audits and support compliance management to ensure adherence to NESC requirements and other relevant safety and regulatory standards.
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, balancing field work, design activities, and stakeholder coordination.
- Utilize GIS, AutoCAD, and related design tools to create, review, and refine distribution design drawings and documentation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship within the field services team, sharing technical knowledge and best practices in distribution design and DOT coordination.
- Support large-scale utility coordination efforts to minimize conflicts and ensure timely delivery of infrastructure projects.
- At least 5 years of experience in electric distribution design.
- Strong background in DOT or public infrastructure coordination, particularly involving utility relocations and road widening projects.
- Proficiency in electric distribution design principles and relocation processes.
- Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, DOT plans, and right-of-way (ROW) maps.
- Working knowledge of NESC code requirements and their application to distribution design.
- Experience with DOT permitting and right-of-way coordination for utility projects.
- Proficiency with GIS and AutoCAD or similar design tools for electric distribution design.
- Demonstrated ability to perform field data collection, site verification, and field assessments.
- Strong communication skills for effective liaison work with DOT agencies, utilities, and contractors.
- Solid project management abilities, including managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Experience supporting safety audits, compliance management, and adherence to compliance regulations in utility projects.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent relevant experience in a related field.
- Advanced knowledge of electric distribution systems and utility relocation processes.
- Experience with pole loading analysis and related tools such as PoleForeman or similar software.
- Experience participating in DOT meetings, design reviews, and pre-construction planning sessions.
- Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment with extensive coordination across multiple stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor team members within a field services or engineering environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when developing construction packages and documentation.
This position offers a dynamic mix of field and office work, with approximately 40% of your time spent in the field and 60% in an office or remote setting. You will work on complex, high-visibility DOT infrastructure projects that support major road, bridge, and public infrastructure upgrades. The role involves frequent coordination with DOT agencies, utilities, and contractors, as well as participation in design reviews and pre-construction meetings. You can work remotely for design tasks and travel to project sites as needed, without a requirement to report to a central office on a daily basis. The environment emphasizes collaboration, professional growth, and exposure to large-scale utility coordination efforts within a growing field services team, using tools such as GIS and AutoCAD to support design and documentation.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Covington, GA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
