Job Title: Dental Hygienist

Job Description

As a Dental Hygienist, you will play a key role in advancing community health by delivering compassionate, high-quality preventive oral care in an onsite dental clinic. You will provide comprehensive hygiene services, support dentists during clinical care, and build trusting relationships with patients through education and individualized counseling. This part-time role is ideal for a professional who is passionate about lifelong oral wellness and enjoys working in a supportive, team-driven, mission-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough oral hygiene assessments and accurately record findings in patients’ dental records.
  • Provide preventive dental services, including prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application, and fluoride treatments, in compliance with the Connecticut Dental Practice Act and internal clinical protocols.
  • Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as directed by the dentist, ensuring high-quality diagnostic images and patient safety.
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and provide individualized counseling to support long-term oral health and wellness.
  • Conduct oral cancer screenings and perform periodontal charting to support early detection and ongoing periodontal care.
  • Organize and prepare treatment rooms for each patient, ensuring instruments, records, and materials are ready for use.
  • Disinfect and sterilize instruments in accordance with CDC, OSHA, and ADA standards to maintain a safe clinical environment.
  • Maintain treatment areas and equipment in full compliance with infection control and safety protocols.
  • Adhere strictly to HIPAA and confidentiality requirements when documenting and discussing patient care.
  • Collaborate effectively with dentists and other healthcare team members to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and sound problem-solving skills in a fast-paced clinical setting.
  • Support a positive, team-oriented culture by communicating clearly, respectfully, and professionally with colleagues and patients.

Essential Skills

  • Unrestricted license to practice dental hygiene in the State of Connecticut.
  • Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program.
  • Proficiency in performing oral hygiene assessments and documenting findings accurately in dental records.
  • Ability to provide preventive services such as prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application, and fluoride treatments.
  • Skill in taking and processing dental radiographs (X-rays) under the direction of a dentist.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to the Connecticut Dental Practice Act and clinical protocols.
  • Demonstrated ability to disinfect and sterilize instruments in compliance with CDC, OSHA, and ADA standards.
  • Understanding of infection control and safety protocols in a clinical setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to educate and counsel patients effectively.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team-oriented environment.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Availability to work on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays within the stated schedule.
  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA requirements.
  • Problem-solving skills and adaptability in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills, particularly in Spanish, are preferred and support effective communication with a diverse patient population.
  • Local anesthesia certification is preferred and enhances clinical versatility.
  • Experience conducting oral cancer screenings and periodontal charting.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with healthcare team members.
  • Strong organizational skills for preparing treatment rooms and managing instruments, records, and materials.
  • Interest in working within a mission-driven organization focused on community health.
  • Comfort using guidelines and standards from CDC, OSHA, and ADA in daily practice.

Work Environment

This is an onsite dental clinic position in a mission-driven organization recognized as a top workplace in Western Connecticut and highly rated for its operational excellence and impact. The role is part-time, structured as a 30-hour-per-week salaried position. The core schedule is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with an additional flexible half day on Tuesday or Thursday. You will work in a clinical environment that follows CDC, OSHA, and ADA standards for infection control, instrument sterilization, and safety, and you will be expected to follow professional clinical attire appropriate for a dental practice. The setting is fast-paced yet supportive, with a strong emphasis on teamwork, patient-centered care, and adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality standards.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $90000.00/yr.
