Job Title: Civil Engineer – Project Manager / Civil Engineering Subject Matter Expert (Utility-Scale Energy Storage)
Job Description

This role serves as a Project Manager and Civil Engineering Subject Matter Expert within a utility-scale energy storage team focused on renewable energy and battery projects. You will lead civil engineering aspects from design through execution, working closely with cross-functional teams to support utilities, renewable energy, energy storage development, and associated capital improvement projects. The position combines technical leadership, project management, and stakeholder collaboration to deliver safe, compliant, and cost-effective energy utility facilities and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and prioritize a variety of programs and projects related to utility-scale energy storage, renewable energy, and associated capital improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze complex technical and administrative methodologies, practices, and problems, evaluate alternatives, and implement creative and sound solutions.
  • Manage, direct, coordinate, and evaluate the work of engineering professionals and contractors to ensure quality, schedule, and budget compliance.
  • Serve as the civil engineering subject matter expert on applicable local, state, and federal codes, regulations, ordinances, policies, and standards for civil design and permitting, both general and project specific.
  • Review and provide technical input on hydrology studies, geotechnical reports, civil design packages, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), and other project documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and code compliance.
  • Develop project-specific scopes of work for the Engineer of Record and ensure alignment with project objectives and standards.
  • Review and provide input on local and national code compliance for civil design, including grading, earthwork, foundations, stormwater management, spill prevention, and on-site roadways.
  • Apply sound civil and structural engineering principles to a broad variety of assignments across planning, design, construction, maintenance, operations, and rehabilitation of energy utility facilities and systems.
  • Develop innovative and cost-effective engineering and design solutions that support safe, reliable, and efficient project delivery.
  • Collaborate effectively within and across business units, including cross-functional teams, to integrate civil engineering requirements into overall project plans.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise, and well-structured reports, analyses, and recommendations, both orally and in writing, for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on methods, materials, and techniques used in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of energy utility facilities.
  • Support project management activities, including scheduling, risk identification, and coordination of resources to meet project milestones.
  • Supervise or support personnel as needed, providing direction, feedback, and technical mentoring.
  • Travel to project sites as needed to support design reviews, field assessments, construction activities, and stakeholder meetings.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Civil or Structural Engineering (required).
  • At least seven years of experience in utility-level power generation or a related industrial field.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management and/or personnel supervision.
  • Strong knowledge of utilities, renewable energy, and energy storage projects, including associated capital improvement projects.
  • In-depth understanding of applicable local, state, and federal rules, regulations, codes, laws, ordinances, policies, and standards related to civil design and permitting.
  • Technical expertise in grading, earthwork, foundations, stormwater management, spill prevention, and on-site roadway design.
  • Proficiency with methods, materials, and techniques used in planning, design, construction, maintenance, operations, and rehabilitation of energy utility facilities and systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and take initiative.
  • Ability to perform multiple detail-oriented tasks with simultaneous deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present clear and concise reports.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex technical and administrative issues and implement practical, effective solutions.
  • Ability to manage and coordinate the work of professionals and contractors while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working on solar or other renewable energy projects, particularly utility-scale applications.
  • Demonstrated passion for renewable energy, energy storage, and sustainable infrastructure.
  • Experience serving as a civil engineering subject matter expert for design and permitting activities.
  • Comfort working within cross-functional teams and collaborating across multiple business units.
  • Strong follow-up skills and the ability to maintain momentum on multiple projects and deliverables.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to develop innovative and cost-effective engineering solutions that balance technical, regulatory, and commercial considerations.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing hydrology studies, geotechnical reports, civil design packages, and SWPPPs.
  • Capability to travel to project sites as needed to support design, construction, and stakeholder engagement.
Work Environment

The role supports a utility-scale energy storage team focused on renewable energy, battery projects, and related utility infrastructure. The position preferably sits in Juno Beach, Florida, with consideration for remote work within Florida. You will work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment that requires frequent coordination with cross-functional teams, including engineering, construction, operations, and other business units. The work involves a combination of office-based tasks—such as design reviews, report preparation, and virtual collaboration—and field-based activities, including occasional travel to project sites to support design validation, construction oversight, and stakeholder meetings. Standard office technology and software, including Microsoft Word and Excel, are used extensively to manage documentation, analysis, and communication.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Juno Beach, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $65.00/hr.
