We are seeking a skilled BIM/VDC Specialist with a focus on piping detailing to join our construction technology team. This role is pivotal in developing coordinated 3D models and detailed mechanical piping routing layouts to enhance prefabrication and field installation efficiency. The position is primarily based in St. Louis, MO, with flexibility for project-based or hybrid work arrangements. The BIM/VDC Specialist will work on major commercial, healthcare, and specialized facility projects, delivering data-rich models and piping deliverables throughout preconstruction and construction phases.
Responsibilities- Develop and maintain coordinated 3D models focusing on mechanical piping systems and equipment.
- Produce detailed system routing layouts and prefabrication-ready/shop drawing packages from coordinated models.
- Create build-ready piping fabrication documentation and facilitate their transition to fabrication and field teams.
- Model piping-associated components such as specialties, hangers, supports, stands, and racks to a constructible level of detail.
- Review construction documents to identify constructability issues and propose solutions.
- Assist in design changes coordination and integrate updates into piping models and deliverables.
- Coordinate piping shop drawings with other trades to support fabrication and installation sequencing.
- Act as a resource for field coordination to help teams resolve installation challenges.
- Utilize point clouds and field measurements to model existing conditions for retrofit work and as-built deliverables.
- Create data-rich models for visualization, aiding coordination and preconstruction planning.
- Develop renderings and visuals to demonstrate BIM/VDC capabilities during project reviews.
- Serve as a project lead on certain efforts and support on others, coordinating deliverable schedules.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, superintendents, fabrication personnel, and install crews to ensure timely and constructible piping deliverables.
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 3–5 years of experience in engineering and/or construction contracting environments.
- Experience in modeling/coordination of HVAC systems and/or mechanical piping.
- Proficiency with Autodesk Building Design Suite modeling tools, including a minimum of 3 years with Revit and Navisworks Manage.
- Strong spatial visualization and ability to transform design intent into coordinated fabrication deliverables.
- Working knowledge of construction documents and ability to interpret drawings/specs for constructability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with professional composure in high-pressure situations.
- Experience with BIM collaboration/coordination platforms such as BIM 360 Glue and Procore.
- Familiarity with local/regional code requirements and industry practices related to mechanical systems.
- Field installation background or strong understanding of piping constructability and means/methods.
- Experience with contractor deliverables like RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and redline/as-built workflows.
This position is based in an office environment with the potential to transition to a hybrid work arrangement as you become acquainted with the team. The role involves using software tools like Autodesk Revit and Navisworks Manage, as well as cloud collaboration platforms such as BIM 360 Glue and Procore. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.
