Job Description
Join one of the world's largest Battery Energy Storage System developers as a Commissioning Manager. In this role, you will oversee the delivery, installation, quality assurance, and startup processes of Battery Energy Storage Systems and Solar Coupled Power systems. You will act as the Owner's representative, ensuring the successful commissioning and testing of these advanced energy systems.
Responsibilities
- Oversee subcontractors and OEMs delivery, installation, quality, and plant testing.
- Ensure successful execution of performance testing, ISO/GIA/PPA Testing, and system startup.
- Act as the Owner's representative for site work, installation, status reporting, safety, quality control, and project close-out.
- Manage construction turnover, pre-energization, commissioning, and performance testing conducted by contractors and vendors.
- Participate in safety programs and audits to ensure compliance.
- Perform detailed system quality control inspections and maintain detailed punch-lists.
- Create and manage energization plans, overseeing EPC and OEM commissioning procedures and compliance.
- Assist in troubleshooting commissioning anomalies as the primary SME owner's representative.
- Prepare and review project close-out and testing documents, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Report progress, indicators, and recovery plans to upper management on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
- Interface with project management committees and third parties, acting as the lead company representative for project activities.
- Manage substation testing, energization, and metering testing.
- Oversee ISO/GIA/PPA commissioning process management and compliance.
- Develop guidelines for performance testing based on Purchase Power Agreement and Interconnect Agreements.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Commissioning, and Business Management personnel to align on testing requirements.
- Develop comprehensive testing plans to ensure all deliverables are met across relevant contractual documentation.
- Schedule and lead alignment meetings during performance testing periods to ensure organized execution.
- Administer tests, analyze data, and compile final reports.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems installation and startup.
- Thorough understanding of Li-Ion batteries' technical performance and integration as part of ESS.
- Proficiency in commissioning process creation and management.
- Experience in substation testing, startup, and Protection and Controls implementation.
- Knowledge of containerized systems, skids, controllers/SCADA, transformers, and combiners.
- Ability to perform quality control inspections and manage punch-lists.
- Comprehensive understanding of DC systems (0-2,000Vdc) and AC systems (480V-34.5kV).
- Skill in troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLC) and industrial electronic equipment.
- Experience with control and SCADA systems and troubleshooting.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Understanding of Electrical Code, means, and methods.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in engineering or professional electrical career in power systems commissioning.
- Experience with 100MW-hr or 5 EA energy storage systems and commissioning.
- Preferred experience with BESS and SCADA.
Work Environment
The role requires travel and stay at project locations within the US for up to 75% of the time. The remaining work can be performed remotely, supporting teams in remote SCADA monitoring and Commissioning portfolio management. The work environment is site-specific, focusing on ensuring the efficient and effective commissioning of Battery Energy Storage Systems and Solar Coupled Power systems.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $57.00 - $60.00/hr.
