Job Captain / Project Manager – Architecture
We are seeking an experienced Job Captain / Project Manager to support the design and delivery of complex architectural projects from schematic design through construction administration. This role is ideal for a technically strong architect who thrives in a collaborative studio environment and is confident leading project documentation, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and driving projects to successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and production of comprehensive construction document sets across all project phases.
- Coordinate with project managers, principals, consultants, and stakeholders to ensure project goals, schedules, budgets, and quality standards are achieved.
- Translate design concepts into clear, accurate, and buildable construction documents.
- Prepare, manage, and revise drawing sets, technical details, and project specifications.
- Serve as a primary technical resource and mentor for project teams.
- Coordinate consultant workflows and support zoning analysis, code compliance reviews, and agency submissions.
- Manage RFIs, submittals, site observations, and field-related issues during construction administration.
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and organization across all project deliverables.
- Mentor junior staff, support team development, and promote a collaborative studio culture.
Qualifications
- 7 years of professional experience in an architecture firm.
- Professional degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
- New York State architectural licensure strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in theater, cultural, and museum design projects.
- Extensive knowledge of the NYC Building Code, ADA requirements, zoning regulations, and NYC filing/review processes, with experience on successfully completed projects.
- Proven ability to independently lead projects from concept design through construction administration with minimal principal oversight.
- Comfortable serving as the primary day-to-day client contact and representing the firm in meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects, schedules, consultant teams, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience producing and managing complex drawing packages with minimal supervision.
- Proven success mentoring and managing junior staff while fostering strong team collaboration.
- Excellent design, organizational, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of Rhino, SketchUp, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
- Strong understanding of building systems and multidisciplinary consultant coordination.
- Detail-oriented, proactive, reliable, creative, and highly organized.
- Strong interpersonal skills, professional presence, and a collaborative approach.
- Interest in cultivating long-term client relationships and contributing to future business development opportunities.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $31.00 - $36.05/hr.
