Job Description
The primary focus of this role is to assist the sales team in maintaining and growing new business by focusing on customer needs and requirements for the production facility.
Responsibilities
- Identify technology gaps and provide technical insight to R&D to develop new products for new and existing customers.
- Lead technical service projects, including formulation development, designing experiments, utilizing in-house testing equipment, and presenting project results to the technical group and customers.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of coatings formulations while maintaining knowledge of competitive technologies and market trends.
- Assist customers with problem analysis, batch qualification, and troubleshooting.
- Support Health, Safety, and Environmental programs.
- Establish positive and communicative relationships with Sales, Applications, Quality Assurance, R&D groups, and Production.
- Maintain comprehensive and detailed records of Technical Service projects; effectively collect, communicate, and manage information and data flow.
- Act as the key technical interface between the business and external customers; responsible for the applications role in the business/product development cycle.
- Promote products at technical conferences by giving presentations and writing publications for industry journals.
- Possible annual travel to Corporate/R&D headquarters.
Essential Skills
- Expertise in chemical analysis, polymer chemistry, and chemical testing.
- Strong in analytical chemistry, formulation, and waterborne coatings.
- Experience in formulation development and understanding of polymers/resins and wet chemistry.
- Proficiency in quality control and familiarity with HPLC, viscosity, and related chemistry techniques.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Coatings Science, or Polymer Science required.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience with waterborne coatings formulation and development for architectural and industrial applications.
- Some knowledge of adhesives is desired.
- Strong knowledge of coatings for wood, metal, and concrete substrates.
- General knowledge of waterborne acrylic emulsions, polyurethane dispersions, air dry, radiation cure, and 2K systems.

The work is conducted in a large lab, collaborating directly with Production, Quality Assurance, Sales, Application, R&D groups, and customers. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
