Animal Care Technician
Job Description
The Animal Care Assistant plays a crucial role in providing care for larger preclinical animals. The position requires an individual who is comfortable working with animals, specifically swine, canines, and ovines. An animal background is preferred for this role.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the daily health and husbandry of animals.
- Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and observe safety practices.
- Clean all animal housing areas daily.
- Provide daily enrichment to animals, including exercise, toys, and social housing.
- Disinfect each housing area weekly, including walls, flooring, and feed bins.
- Feed all animals according to department SOPs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in all laboratory areas.
- Manage receipt of department deliveries.
- Communicate all health status issues immediately to the Veterinary Staff.
- Document all activities in animal records and forms daily using Good Documentation Practices.
- Assist Veterinary Technicians and Veterinarians as assigned.
- Report any facility maintenance required to the Manager.
Essential Skills
- Ability to lift 30 pounds.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry and handling.
- Familiarity with laboratory procedures and cleaning protocols.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Industry experience is a plus.
- A Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) is not required.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $21.00/hr.
