Job Description
The Animal Care Technician supports all aspects of animal care and ascites production in a regulated bioprocessing environment. This role focuses on the daily care, monitoring, and handling of animals, including tasks such as injections, tapping, cage changing, cleaning, and maintaining accurate nursery-related information. The technician helps ensure animal well-being, supports smooth operational workflows, and follows established quality policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Perform all aspects of animal care, including routine monitoring of animals to ensure their health and well-being.
- Carry out ascites production activities such as priming, tapping, collecting, and related procedures with minimal supervision once trained.
- Change cages regularly and ensure animals have clean, safe, and comfortable housing.
- Provide animals with food and water on a consistent schedule and document any irregularities or concerns.
- Scrape dirty cages, stage them for washing, and load them into the cage washer to run appropriate cleaning cycles.
- Perform manual washing of cages when necessary to maintain cleanliness and compliance standards.
- Follow all company production procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and guidelines accurately and consistently.
- Support interdepartmental needs and collaborate with other teams to maintain smooth and continuous operations.
- Maintain effective, professional communication and positive working relationships with colleagues across the organization.
- Protect confidential information and handle all data and processes with discretion.
- Apply the company’s quality policy in all daily activities to support high standards of animal care and production.
- Meet assigned goals and complete projects in a timely and organized manner.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality to support consistent animal care schedules.
- Work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment, seeking guidance when needed.
- Adhere to applicable biosafety and chemical hygiene practices while working in manufacturing and laboratory areas.
- Routinely lift 35–50 lbs and push or pull carts as part of daily operations.
- Stand, sit, stoop, reach, and move throughout the facility for extended periods during the work shift.
- Work occasional weekend and overtime hours as needed to support business and animal care requirements.
Essential Skills

- Willingness and ability to adhere to biosafety and chemical hygiene practices and wear required personal protective equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with animals in a similar capacity is a plus.
- degree in a science-related field such as animal science, zoology, biological science, biology, animal research, or animal husbandry is preferred.
- Prior exposure to laboratory or bioprocessing environments is beneficial.
- Comfort working with animals in a structured, process-driven setting.
- Interest in contributing to immunological and molecular raw material production that supports diagnostic assay development.

Work Environment
This role is based in a regulated bioprocessing and laboratory environment that includes both lab and warehouse settings. The Animal Care Technician works primarily in areas where animals are housed and cared for, as well as in spaces where cages and equipment are cleaned and processed. The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, and moving carts throughout the shift. Personal protective equipment such as face coverings, gloves, and lab coats is required to support biosafety and chemical hygiene practices. The work setting is fast-paced, process-oriented, and highly regulated, with a strong emphasis on quality, safety, and animal welfare. Standard work hours follow typical business schedules, with the expectation of occasional evening, weekend, and overtime work to meet operational and animal care needs. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $17.82/hr.
