Accounting Assistant

Position Overview

One of our is seeking a detail-oriented Year-End Accounting Assistant to support fiscal year-end accounting activities. This temporary assignment will assist with financial reconciliations, journal entry preparation, reporting, and data validation during the State’s fiscal year close process ending June 30th. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates pursuing or recently completing an Accounting degree who are looking to gain hands-on government accounting experience in a professional finance environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with fiscal year-end accounting and close activities
• Collect and compile financial information from multiple accounting and reporting systems
• Prepare preliminary journal entries and supporting documentation
• Reconcile financial data between accounting systems and reports
• Generate and maintain accounting reports and spreadsheets
• Review data for accuracy, completeness, and discrepancies
• Support accounting staff with audit preparation and year-end documentation
• Utilize Microsoft Excel for data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting tasks
• Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of financial information

Required Qualifications

• Completed at least Junior Year toward a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
• Moderate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including:
• Formulas
• Sorting/filtering
• Data reconciliation
• Spreadsheet organization
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment
• Strong organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or internship experience
• Experience working with accounting or ERP systems
• Exposure to reconciliations and journal entries
