What are the responsibilities and job description for the Scientist - Biologics Formulation & Drug Delivery position at AcousticaBio?
Summary: AcousticaBio is hiring a Scientist, Biologics Formulation & Drug Delivery to shape the future of how biologic medicines are delivered.
We are a venture- and NIH-funded deep-tech startup spun out of Harvard, building a proprietary platform that leverages a physics-fist approach to enable better biologics via material sciences. Stemming from our acoustophoretic technology, we allow biopharmaceutical companies formulate new and existing biologics into ultra-high-concentration, small-volume subcutaneous injections by overcoming the viscosity, stability, and manufacturability barriers that have traditionally limited injectable delivery.
This is a rare opportunity to join AcousticaBio at a pivotal moment, as we scale our platform to address one of the most important challenges in modern healthcare: enabling patients to receive life-changing biologic therapies in a more convenient, accessible, and scalable way.
This is not a narrow bench role. The person in this position will work closely with the Founder & CEO and the R&D team, with broad exposure to both internal R&D and external scientific and strategic interactions. We are looking for a scientifically outstanding, highly versatile, and leadership-oriented scientist: someone who can drive experiments, communicate with confidence, present with clarity, influence across teams, and step into whatever is needed to help the company grow. For the right candidate, this is the perfect moment to join and help shape both transformative platform and company.
Responsibilities:
- Lead or co-lead the design and development of novel biologic formulations, with a particular emphasis on protein stability, high-concentration formulations, and subcutaneous drug delivery.
- Design, execute, and interpret in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate formulation performance, delivery, and product behavior.
- Develop and run analytical workflows for biologics characterization, including the assessment of stability, aggregation, activity, and formulation performance.
- Lead or support technical presentations and scientific discussions with internal stakeholders, external collaborators, pharmaceutical companies, and experts in the field.
- Generate high-quality experimental data and communicate results clearly through reports, presentations, grant applications, and external materials.
- Operate with a high degree of ownership and versatility, contributing across scientific, operational, and strategic needs in a fast-moving startup environment while staying current with the literature and industry landscape.
Desired Experience and Capabilities:
- PhD in Biotechnology, Drug Delivery, Pharmaceutics, Biomaterials, Biomedical Engineering, Polymers, or a related field.
- Strong wet-lab experience in formulation development, biologics, protein therapeutics, or drug delivery.
- Experience with one or more of the following is strongly preferred: protein formulation development, high-concentration biologic formulations, microparticle-based drug delivery, hydrogel-based delivery systems, injectable formulations, or microfluidic and advanced manufacturing systems.
- Outstanding communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage effectively with internal teams, external collaborators, and senior stakeholders.
- Proven scientific writing skills, with a strong track record of publications, reports, patents, grants, or related technical materials.
- Demonstrated leadership potential or experience, including the ability to drive initiatives, influence decisions, and help energize a growing team.
- A highly versatile, high-agency mindset, with enthusiasm for wearing multiple hats and contributing well beyond a narrow job description as the company scales.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary startup environment where priorities evolve and team members are expected to step in wherever needed to move the mission forward.
- Creative and analytical thinking, with the judgment to translate complex scientific ideas into practical solutions and compelling narratives for a wide range of audiences.
Who We’re Looking For:
We’re looking for a scientific leader in the making: someone who is hands-on at the bench, confident in front of a room, energized by collaboration, and excited to help shape both the science and the people of AcousticaBio. You are a team-first individual, with strong and engaging communicator who enjoys presenting ideas clearly and with confidence and build trust across teams and with external partners. You are versatile and proactive: comfortable moving between deep technical work, cross-functional collaboration, external interactions, and whatever else is needed to help the company – and the patients – win.
Compensation and Perks:
- Base salary: $100-140k
- Competitive equity package
- 401k with employer match
- Flexible schedule
- Unlimited PTO
- Premium coverage for medical and dental plans
- Yearly and milestone-based bonuses
