Position Summary
The Production Planner is responsible for coordinating and managing production schedules to ensure customer requirements are met while maximizing manufacturing efficiency. This role serves as a key link between Sales, Operations, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Quality, balancing customer demand with available labor, machine capacity, materials, and operational priorities.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Production Planner develops and maintains production schedules, monitors workflow, and proactively addresses potential constraints that could impact delivery performance. The ideal candidate is highly organized, analytical, customer-focused, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and communicate production schedules for machining, welding, fabrication, and related manufacturing operations.
- Coordinate production priorities to ensure on-time delivery and efficient utilization of labor, equipment, and resources.
- Monitor capacity, workload, and material availability to identify and address potential production constraints.
- Collaborate with Sales, Estimating, Quality, and Operations to align production plans with customer requirements and business objectives.
- Track production progress and adjust schedules as needed to respond to changing priorities, resource availability, and customer demand.
- Maintain accurate production data and scheduling information within the ERP system.
- Analyze production performance and provide recommendations to improve scheduling effectiveness, workflow, and throughput.
- Support inventory planning and material readiness to minimize production disruptions.
- Communicate schedule changes, risks, and delivery concerns to key stakeholders.
- Assist in the development of production planning processes, reporting tools, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to create reports, dashboards, and analyses that support operational decision-making.
- Promote a collaborative, customer-focused approach to planning and execution.
Qualifications
Required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Manufacturing, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Experience in production planning, scheduling, manufacturing coordination, or a related operational role.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to learn and become an expert user of the company's ERP system.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production scheduling software.
- Understanding of machining, fabrication, welding, and manufacturing workflows.
- Knowledge of capacity planning, inventory management, and supply chain principles.
- Experience supporting Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement initiatives.
