Acme Construction in North Salt Lake, Utah, is looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to join our growing team. We are a General Contractor specializing in heavy civil construction projects ranging from UDOT highways and bridges to city streets and sidewalks.
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for administering and processing payroll and employee benefits for both field and office personnel within a construction environment. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, maintains compliance with company policies and labor regulations, and supports the administration of employee benefit programs including health insurance, 401(k), retirement plans, and related payroll deductions.
The Payroll Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining payroll accuracy, employee records, and compliance while supporting efficient payroll and benefits operations across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process weekly payroll for field and office employees
- Processing weekly certified payroll for Davis-Bacon prevailing wage projects
- Review and verify timesheets, hours worked, overtime, deductions, and payroll adjustments
- Maintain accurate payroll records and employee payroll data
- Coordinate payroll information with Project Managers, Supervisors, and field personnel
- Administer employee benefit programs including:
- Health insurance
- Dental and vision plans
- 401(k) and retirement plans
- Payroll deductions and benefit enrollments
- Process employee status changes including New hires, Terminations, Compensation updates and benefit changes
- Process quarterly taxed
- Support employee onboarding related to payroll and benefits documentation
- Coordinate with benefits providers to resolve discrepancies or issues
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and company payroll regulations and procedures
- Prepare payroll-related reports, reconciliations, and audit documentation
- Assist with year-end payroll activities including W-2 processing and reporting
- Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll and benefits information
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of payroll administration experience
- Experience processing payroll in a construction type of industry preferred
- Knowledge of payroll regulations, tax withholdings, and benefits administration
- Experience with payroll and HRIS systems (ComputerEase and CrewTracks knowledge preferred)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office Suite
