Founded in 1923, the ACLU Foundation of Southern California (“ACLU SoCal”) has been at the forefront of many major efforts to protect civil liberties, civil rights, and equal justice in California. Principled and nonpartisan, ACLU SoCal has offices in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire (San Bernardino), and Kern County (Bakersfield). ACLU SoCal tackles a vast array of issues, including the criminal legal system, police practices, First Amendment rights, voting rights, gender equity, reproductive justice, LGBTQ rights, immigrants’ rights, education equity, and economic justice.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the supervision of the Chief of Staff, the Human Resources Manager ensures that HR programs and practices are documented, completed with accuracy on a timely basis, comply with state and federal labor laws, ACLU SoCal policies and procedures, and the collective bargaining agreement. The Human Resources Manager assists with the execution of a wide range of sensitive and confidential matters while ensuring a high level of customer service in support of ACLU SoCal’s mission and strategic initiatives. The Human Resources Manager performs HR functions including:

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, Organization Development, or related field. Four years’ experience in leading HR systems will be substituted for a bachelor’s degree. HR designation such as SHRM preferred
- At least seven years of Human Resources experience leading Human Resources systems and recruitment
- Prior non-profit and/or union experience preferred
- Exceptional time management and organization
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
- Familiarity human resource policies and procedures to meet organizational needs and goals
- Ability to keep information confidential
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Proficiency in Asana or other project/task management system is preferred
- Thorough understanding of all areas of information systems with a technical understanding of at least one commercial HRIS product
- Passionate about civil liberties and civil rights
