Duties and Responsibilities: The Licensed Practical Nurse is expected to perform the following duties:
- Review referrals for administrative, clinical completeness, and appropriateness. Validate requested medical service, for medical procedures, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, and general hospital procedures and regulations. Collaborate with TRICARE Regional Office Clinical Liaison Nurse and MTF Liaison to address any process issues or concerns.
- Coordinate with specialty referral clinics (internal or external) to obtain special patient instructions and/or tests required prior to appointment.
- Verify eligibility of beneficiaries using Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS).
- Assist providers with Line-of-Duty reports. Obtain pertinent information from patients/callers, referrals, physicians, or other officials. Enter data in CHCS, AHLTA, Genesis, JLV, and other office automation software programs as appropriate.
- Maintain patient exam rooms/areas. Ensure rooms/areas are presentable and cleaned daily and that rooms are adequately stocked with necessary medical supplies.
- Assist the physician with and prepare patients for examination, treatment, and diagnostic procedures. Assemble, operate, maintain and perform routine user maintenance of electrocardiogram equipment. Ensure appropriate completion and storage of procedure logs.
- Perform portions of medical treatment, diagnostic, and therapeutic procedures.
- Utilize the nursing process for promoting and maintaining patient health.
- Assist with oversight of waiver management utilizing the Aircrew Information Management Waiver Tracking System (AIMWTS).
- Maintain grounding management utilizing the Aeromedical Services Information Management Systems (ASIMS).
- Perform the paraprofessional portion of initial flying class/special warfare (SWA) physicals. Conduct clinical entries for data into the Physical Examination Processing Program (PEPP) and manage physical until completion.
- Conduct physical exams and screenings for SOF selection, qualification and training.
- Assist with Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) Process and Record review In Lieu Of (RILO).
- Preparation and oversight of management reports, as well as conducting follow-up with members in DNIF (Duties Not Involving Flying) status to ensure the continuity of care and progression of training.
- Coordinate with SARM's office to discuss suspended members and status updates.
- Provide case management for special program referrals, such as ISC and PREP.
- Maintain cleanliness and perform basic housekeeping duties of work/rest areas.
- Some travel may be required.
Candidates must meet the following qualifications/certifications.
- Graduate from a state or national accredited community college, junior college, college, university, or vocational nursing program.
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a practical nurse in accordance with State Board requirements. Nurse applicants must be a current U.S. licensed Practical Nurse.
- License cannot be under investigation nor have any adverse action pending from a Nursing State Board or national licensing/certification agency.
- Certified in BLS.
- Minimum of 2 years of practical nursing experience is required.
- Contractor shall have the following mandatory skills and working knowledge in the following areas:
- Knowledge, skills and computer literacy to interpret and apply medical care criteria as necessary to patient's electronic medical records.
- Working knowledge of Ambulatory Procedure Grouping (APGs), Diagnostic Related Grouping (DRGs), International Classification of Diseases-Version 10 (ICD), Current Procedural Terminology-Version 4 (CPT-4) coding, Medical Standards Directory (MSD), Physical Examination Matrix (PEM), and waiver procedures.
- The Composite Health Care System (CHCS) and the newest version, MHS Genesis, Citrix applications, JLV, AHLTA, AIMWTS, ASIMS, PEPP, and ICD-B programs must be utilized for referral management services. The contractor shall learn any new government processes, if required
