Accountant – Fixed Assets & Capital Projects
Location: Boston, MA (Hybrid – 2 days onsite)
Job Type: 6 Months of Contract - (Possibilities of Temp to Perm)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Operational Accountant to support fixed assets, capital projects, and financial reporting activities within a dynamic organization. This role will be responsible for managing the lifecycle of capital assets, maintaining accounting accuracy, supporting audits, preparing financial reports, and partnering with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with accounting policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage fixed asset accounting activities, including asset setup, classification, transfers, adjustments, impairments, and disposals.
- Review procurement and financial documentation to identify and track capital expenditures.
- Monitor capital projects and construction-in-progress (CIP) activities, ensuring timely capitalization of assets.
- Prepare and reconcile financial reports, account analyses, and supporting documentation for management and audit purposes.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes related to fixed assets and capital projects.
- Maintain accurate asset records and ensure compliance with organizational accounting policies.
- Collaborate with finance, procurement, facilities, and other stakeholders on capital asset management initiatives.
- Assist with audit requests and financial statement preparation.
- Provide guidance and support to junior staff and team members as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience in fixed asset accounting, capital projects accounting, or general ledger accounting.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and reconciliations.
- Experience preparing financial and asset-related reports.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
- Ability to manage large datasets and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Workday Financials or similar ERP systems.
- Experience in higher education, nonprofit, or similarly complex organizations.
- Exposure to grant accounting or grant management processes.
- Experience supporting audits and financial compliance activities.
