Job Summary
We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our retail pharmacy team. You will support pharmacists in delivering high-quality patient care by assisting with prescription processing, customer service, medication preparation, inventory management, and compliance with all state and federal regulations. They are responsible for providing excellent customer service in a friendly, professional, and efficient manner. This position plays a key role in the smooth operation of the pharmacy by assisting customers, answering phone calls, processing transactions, and supporting all pharmacy staff. The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
They will be responsible for keeping the pharmacy clean and organized, know what and when to reorder stock in the store and be able to help the customers purchase what they are looking for.
Duties
- Receive and process prescription orders accurately and efficiently
- Assist patients at the pharmacy counter and via phone with professionalism and care
- Prepare and label medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist
- Maintain proper storage, handling, and documentation of medications, including controlled substances
- Restock and organize pharmacy inventory; check for expired items
- Process insurance claims and resolve rejections or prior authorizations
- Comply with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards
- Support immunization efforts as allowed by law (if certified)
- Perform daily pharmacy maintenance and cleaning tasks
- Help train new pharmacy team members as needed
- Operate cash registers and Point of Sale (POS) systems efficiently to process customer transactions.
- Provide excellent customer service by greeting customers, answering questions, and addressing concerns.
- Assist customers with product selection and upselling additional items to enhance their shopping experience.
- Maintain a clean and organized front-end area, including stocking shelves and ensuring products are displayed attractively.
- Handle phone inquiries with professionalism and courtesy, demonstrating strong phone etiquette.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations during peak hours.
- Perform basic math calculations for transactions and cash handling accurately.
Skills
- Valid Pharmacy Technician license/registration (as required by your state)
- National certification (CPhT) preferred but not required
- Previous experience in retail/community pharmacy preferred
- Strong attention to detail, organizational, and multitasking skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Previous experience in retail sales is preferred but not required.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with customers and team members.
- Experience with cash registers or POS systems is a plus.
- Bilingual abilities are advantageous for serving a diverse customer base.
- Knowledge of stock management and inventory control is beneficial.
- Ability to upsell products while maintaining a positive customer experience.
