An established Utility Contractor is seeking a Vice President (VP) to serve as the lead operating executive, responsible for all aspects of the company’s performance across operational, financial, and administrative functions. This includes direct oversight of departments such as Operations, Accounting/Finance, Human Resources, Safety, and Compliance.
The VP will also function as a primary driver of business development, responsible for identifying growth opportunities, strengthening customer relationships, and executing strategic expansion initiatives. This role is accountable for both short-term performance and long-term value creation.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
•Lead development and execution of the company’s annual and long-term strategic plans in alignment with our Utility Services directives.
•Set operational goals and KPIs across departments and ensure accountability for results.
•Driving sustainable, profitable growth and developing and supporting processes and people to enable a successful and scalable organization.
Executive Oversight
•Oversee all functional areas including operations, accounting, HR, safety, and compliance.
•Implement standardized systems and processes to enhance operational discipline and scalability.
Growth & Business Development
•Identify and secure new business opportunities with utility and primary contracting clients.
•Expand customer relationships and establish the company’s presence in new service lines and geographic areas.
Culture & Compliance
•Promote and enforce a culture of safety, integrity, performance, and professionalism.
•Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and company policies.
•Build internal capabilities through talent development, succession planning, and leadership mentoring.
Candidate Profile
Experience & Qualifications
•Minimum 10 years of executive leadership experience in utility construction, energy infrastructure, or civil contracting sectors.
•Demonstrated success in managing organizations of scale.
•Prior experience working within or directly supporting large utilities such as Florida Power & Light (FPL), Duke, TECO or similar regional power providers.
•Strong background in utility-related civil operations, including excavation, duct banks, pole setting, and site restoration.
•Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage financial performance, and implement operational best practices based on strategic executive direction.
