Hiring: Legal Subject Matter Expert (SME) – AI Research

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Legal Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support advanced AI research initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring deep legal expertise to help evaluate AI-generated legal content, improve research outputs, and provide domain-specific insights to enhance AI model development.
You will collaborate with AI researchers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to ensure AI-generated responses align with legal principles, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise across legal research, contracts, compliance, litigation, corporate law, and regulatory matters.
- Review, analyze, and validate AI-generated legal content, summaries, and research outputs.
- Interpret statutes, regulations, case law, legal opinions, and complex legal documentation.
- Provide feedback and recommendations to improve AI model performance and accuracy.
- Collaborate with research scientists, engineers, and product teams on AI evaluation initiatives.
- Document legal findings, analysis, assumptions, and recommendations.
- Stay current with evolving legal regulations, industry standards, and legal trends.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD), LLB, LLM, or equivalent legal qualification.
- 10 years of professional legal experience, including law firm, corporate legal, compliance, or regulatory experience.
- Strong understanding of legal research methodologies and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting complex legal documents.
- Excellent analytical, legal writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Mountain View, CA, two days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AI, machine learning, or LegalTech initiatives is a plus (not required).
- Background in contract analysis, regulatory compliance, privacy law, intellectual property, or corporate law.
- Experience providing expert reviews, quality assessments, or domain evaluations.
