Maintenance Technician III (Senior Specialist)
Location: Crystal Lake, IL
Compensation: $85,000–$110,000 annually, depending on experience and overtime
Reports To: Maintenance Lead / Supervisor
Employment Status: Exempt or Non-Exempt based on experience
Position Overview
An established manufacturing organization is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician III to serve as a senior technical resource within the maintenance team. This role focuses on advanced troubleshooting, equipment reliability, predictive maintenance, mentoring junior technicians, and supporting uptime across critical production and facility assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead advanced troubleshooting and repairs involving electrical, controls, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
- Diagnose complex equipment failures using root cause analysis and structured troubleshooting methods.
- Support reliability and uptime of production equipment, conveyors, motors, pumps, compressors, and facility systems.
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities, inspections, rebuilds, alignments, and component replacements.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, hydraulic diagrams, pneumatic diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Troubleshoot motor controls, VFDs, sensors, relays, contactors, PLC-related faults, HMIs, and industrial automation systems.
- Support equipment installations, commissioning activities, and production startups.
- Develop and improve preventive maintenance procedures, repair documentation, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participate in root cause failure investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Mentor and train junior maintenance technicians on troubleshooting, safety, repair quality, and documentation standards.
- Collaborate with operations, engineering, quality, and safety teams to improve equipment performance and reliability.
- Maintain accurate CMMS documentation, including downtime causes, corrective actions, and parts usage.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, fall protection, confined space, and PPE requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing, production, distribution, or similar environment.
- Strong troubleshooting experience across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and controls systems.
- Experience performing root cause failure analysis and implementing corrective actions.
- Ability to lead troubleshooting efforts during major downtime events.
- Experience supporting equipment installations, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop junior technicians.
- Strong communication, documentation, project coordination, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, Automation, or related field.
- CMRT certification or equivalent.
- NFPA 70E certification.
- Advanced PLC troubleshooting and programming experience.
- Thermography certification or predictive maintenance training.
- Rigging certification.
