Role Description The CNC 5-Axis Setup/Programmer/Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Fairport, NY. This role is responsible for setting up 5-axis CNC machines, creating and modifying CNC programs, and operating equipment to produce precision components that meet engineering and quality requirements. Daily tasks include reading and interpreting blueprints and CAD/CAM data, programming CNC equipment in MasterCAM, selecting tooling, performing machine offsets, and verifying part dimensions using appropriate inspection tools. The role also involves troubleshooting machining issues, optimizing feeds and speeds, maintaining equipment, and documenting processes to ensure consistent production. The individual may assist in training other team members on best practices for 5-axis machining and safe operation of equipment.
Qualifications
- Programming skills: Experience creating, editing, and optimizing CNC programs (5-axis preferred), including use of CAM software, Mazatrol, and G-code.
- Machining skills: Strong background in CNC setup and operation, precision measurement, tooling selection, and reading blueprints and technical drawings.
- Teaching skills: Ability to share knowledge, mentor peers, and support training on machining methods, safety, and quality standards.
- Relevant experience: Prior work in precision manufacturing for aerospace, medical, or similar industries, with familiarity in tight tolerances and quality systems.
- Technical qualifications: Vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on experience in CNC machining; 5-axis experience strongly preferred.
- Additional skills: Solid understanding of shop math, GD&T, and ISO or similar quality standards; strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Work environment: Capacity to work on-site in a production setting, follow safety protocols, and collaborate effectively with engineering and quality teams.
