What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Controller position at ACCOUNTING FOR FASHION LTD?
About the Company
This client is one of those rare outfits where “integrity, humility, purpose, and drive” aren’t just painted on the lobby wall and forgotten about. They’ve been named a Best Place to Work, they’re on all the “fastest-growing companies” lists, and they’re scaling like crazy.
In short: the train is moving fast. They’d like someone in the engine room who can count.
The Role (Where You Come In)
They’re hiring their first Controller. No fifty-year-old chart of accounts, no mystery spreadsheets in someone’s “Old Stuff” folder. You get to:
- Build the function properly
- Keep the books straight
- Tell the truth with numbers, even when it hurts a little
You’ll be the right hand to the VP of Finance, running the day-to-day accounting and helping steer the bigger picture.
What You’ll Actually Do
- Lead and coach a sharp team of three (Accounting Manager, Senior Bookkeeper, Staff Accountant/Payroll)
- Own month-end close and deliver clean, on-time financials (no “still waiting on that one journal” stories)
- Partner with the VP of Finance on budgets, forecasts, and “what if we actually do this?” scenarios
- Oversee AR/AP, cash flow, banking, and credit facilities so nobody’s surprised by the bank balance
- Keep everything US GAAP-compliant, including consolidations and ASC 606 for professional services
- Run point on the annual audit and send the auditors home happy
- Use NetSuite to automate the pain out of manual processes and tighten controls
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or similar
- CPA (this part is not a suggestion)
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with 3 years leading a team
- Strong US GAAP and technical accounting chops
- Experience in professional services / consulting / project-based businesses is a big plus
- The ability to spot a $0.37 error in a sea of numbers and sleep better once you fix it
- Comfortable being both hands-on in the weeds and in the room for big decisions
Benefits & Perks
- Competitive base salary performance bonus
- Comprehensive medical, dental, vision
- 401(k) with company contribution/match
- Generous PTO holidays
- Paid parental leave
- Budget for CPE, courses, and conferences
- A seat at the table in a fast-growing, people-first company where finance actually has a voice
