Vice President of Software Engineering

VP of Software - Houston, TX or US Remote

A Series B funded startup who are building the infrastructure that powers how residential HVAC systems are monitored, maintained, and serviced are looking for a VP of Engineering to join their team.

What will I be doing:

• Lead and scale the software engineering organization
• Translate high-level product and platform vision into concrete, high-velocity execution
• Partner closely with the Head of Data, VP of Product, and AI/ML team to shape long-term architectural decisions and prioritize investments
• Manage and mentor a team of senior engineers, including Staff ICs and architects
• Drive engineering hiring, onboarding, and team design to support company growth and a strong technical culture
• Implement and evolve best practices across the development process, CI/CD, observability, security, and reliability
• Promote clear communication, technical rigor, and fast iteration across engineering and cross-functional teams
• Work closely with functional leaders across AI, Product, and Data to align engineering execution with company priorities and ensure the platform scales in lockstep with business needs
• Occasionally lead cross-functional initiatives, help drive company-wide technology strategy, and take ownership of budget and resourcing decisions

What are we looking for:

• 10 years of engineering experience, with 3 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Director or VP level) at a high-growth startup or scaling tech company
• Strong technical background in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and modern development practices
• Experience managing high-performance engineering teams building real-time or data-intensive systems (e.g., IoT, streaming, or connected hardware platforms)
• Proven ability to scale teams, mentor senior engineers, and build strong organizational foundations
• Comfortable navigating tradeoffs between speed and scalability
• Excellent communicator with a track record of working closely with product, design, and executive teams
• Passion for building high-trust engineering cultures where people can do their best work
