Clinical Lab Scientist

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Infection Prevention Specialist with a CIC (Certification in Infection Control) for a full-time travel assignment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in infection prevention practices, clinical laboratory science, and acute care hospital operations. This role supports hospital-wide infection prevention initiatives and provides advisory guidance to clinical teams.

Candidates may come from one of the following professional backgrounds:

✔ Clinical Lab Scientist (CLS / MLS / MT)

✔ Registered Nurse (RN)

✔ Microbiologist

✔ Master of Public Health (MPH)

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct infection prevention rounds across multiple hospital service lines.
• Advise clinical teams on infection prevention standards and regulatory guidelines.
• Perform surveillance, documentation, and reporting using Bugsy or comparable systems.
• Analyze epidemiological data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to implement evidence-based infection control measures.
• Support compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, and CDC infection control standards.
• Provide education and consultation on best practices for infection prevention.

Required Qualifications

• CIC certification (CBIC) – REQUIRED
• Minimum 3 years of experience in infection prevention (5 years preferred).
• Acute care hospital experience is mandatory, including:
• Surgery
• NICU
• Cardiac
• Critical Care
• Emergency Department
• Experience with Epic electronic health records.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to interact confidently with clinical leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Clinical Lab Scientist, Infection Prevention RN, or Infection Control Specialist.
• Knowledge of Bugsy or other infection surveillance software tools.
• Background in microbiology, epidemiology, or public health.

Additional Details

• No weekends, no holidays required
• No floating between units
• Orientation provided prior to start
• Must submit all RTO at time of application (only one request allowed)
• Compliance documents required the Monday before start date
• Travelers may be required to float to nearby sister facilities if operationally necessary
