Title: Central Sterile Processing Director

Location: Stamford, CT

Mon- Thu onsite

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversee all activities of the Central Processing Services performed. Responsible for the sterile and non-sterile aspects of operation for instruments, supplies and equipment. Responsible for input and management of the labor and expense budgets. Provides direction and leadership to the functions of improving organizational performance, leadership, management of environment of care, management of human resources, management of information and surveillance, protection and control of infection.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Leadership

  • Provide leadership, guidance and training to staff in making appropriate decisions in prioritizing tasks.
  • Participate in monthly leadership committee meetings: Infection Control, Safety, and Operating Room, Weekly CSP meeting.
  • Improvement of the organizational performance.

II. Management

  • Provides departmental staffing coverage in alignment with budgetary and productivity standards.
  • Coordinate Central Service activities and communication with the Operating Room, Emergency Department, Cardiovascular Unit, Labor and Delivery, Special Procedures, and Clinic areas in order to provide services promptly & efficiently.
  • Responsible for the control of the inventory, requisitioning, and issuing management of supplies processes for the Central Processing Department.
  • Establishes departmental work schedules and exercises independent judgment based on hospital wide needs.
  • Provides staff leadership to include work allocation, scheduling, training, evaluation and problem resolution.
  • Responsible for the sterile process of all instrumentation, equipment and staff education so to provide safe products used in the care and treatment of patients.
  • Implements and recommendations for changes to improve operational effectiveness; promote continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Coordinates departmental orientation and training programs pertaining to products and services lines.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures pertaining to the cleaning, sterilization and assembling of instruments, medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain employee records, competencies, and annual & end of the year PMP.
  • Maintain the department regulatory ready all the time
  • Maintain the records of quality audits and is able to produce them on demand

III. Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, operations management or related field required.
  • Related experience or equivalent combination of education/experience with concentration in Sterile Processing and Distribution Management in Central Service/Operating Room.
  • Knowledge: Management Experience in budget preparation, contracts & cost analysis, infection control, hazardous materials and waste applications CQI, and knowledge of standards of JCAHO, CDC, EPA, AAMI, is preferred.

Knowledge :

  • Materials management
  • Product sterility, storage and processing
  • Policies and procedures .
  • Medical Terminology
  • Knowledge of high level and low-level disinfection
  • Subject matter expert for all CSP related regulatory components

Skills:

  • Use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Problem solving skills
  • Verbal and written communication.
  • Interpersonal/ Collaborative approach to problem solving
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of SPM or related instrument tracking software
