Position Summary
Position Hours: Full-Time 8 hours per day, 5 days per week (Day Shift)
The Certified Sterile Processing Technician will support the SPD Management team in daily workflow, staff training, equipment oversight, and ensuring high standards of sterilization and patient safety. This role requires both technical expertise and strong leadership, serving as a role model for professionalism and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in managing daily SPD workflow to maximize efficiency.
- Support staff training, instrument education, and equipment repair coordination.
- Collaborate with OR staff to ensure timely instrument availability for scheduled and emergency cases.
- Perform all SPD activities, including decontamination, packaging, processing, dispensing, inventory management, and storage.
- Maintain SPD equipment and coordinate maintenance as needed.
- Monitor and manage orthopedic instrumentation from outside vendors.
- Ensure proper handling of patient care equipment; tag and report damaged items.
- Adhere to sterilization procedures and infection control standards.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to sterile processing.
Experience:
- Sterile processing experience required.
- Orthopedic and/or total joint experience strongly preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
- Current, unencumbered Sterile Processing Technician certification required.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Standing or walking most of the day with sufficient mobility to move throughout the department.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling of carts, instruments, and supplies.
- Exposure to blood, sharps, and infectious diseases (PPE required).
