What are the responsibilities and job description for the CMM Inspector position at Absolute Manufacturing?
Responsible for operating CMM Inspection equipment to perform Measurement and inspection of product using previously prepared CMM inspection programs. This role is for 2nd shift, which is 4/10's Monday - Thursday 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Reads and interprets Aerospace or Commercial manufacturing drawings, including tolerances, customer specifications and technical requirements.
- Operates CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) to dimensionally inspect the product;
- Interprets CMM results to accurately compare product to engineering drawings/specifications and electronic models with (but preferably without) supervision.
- Documents product acceptance/rejection on manufacturing orders, processes appropriate rejection documentation (NCR/DMR) if necessary, and performs move function in MRP system.
· Performs Rockwell and Eddy Current testing for product acceptance once certified.
- Understands and can apply statistical sampling techniques.
· Review outside machining, processing certifications of nondestructive testing, chemical processing/finish, and verify physical appearance of final product for conformance to engineering specifications.
- Ensure accurate measurements by following geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) guidelines.
- Perform layout and manual inspections on parts per drawings or written inspection procedures
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing and quality personnel as needed on technical issues.
- Responsible for maintaining an organized file system for inspection reports
- Communicate with Tooling, QA, CMM Programming, Engineering and Manufacturing regarding customer drawing requirements.
- Monitors in-process CMM programs and responds to errors.
- Assist in training and work to ensure production flow through the inspection area.
- Keeps up to date knowledge of CMM computer operating procedures and standards.
- Follows all safety guidelines established by the Company, including proper use of safety equipment and relevant safety procedures.
- Edits CMM programming online with supervision (if absolutely necessary).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Recognizes deviations from requirements.
- Knowledge of general quality assurance principals relating to dimensional inspections
- Experience with GD&T
- Experience with first article inspection.
- Experience in Microsoft Office software.
- Mechanical aptitude with ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.
Abilities Required:
- Understanding of GD&T dimensioning and familiarity with engineering drawing terminology.
- A mechanical aptitude and the ability to help analyze and troubleshoot manufacturing issues when needed.
- General knowledge of Manufacturing Processes
Education, Skills, and Experience:
· Two to Five years hands-on inspection experience operating a CMM in a regulated industry.
· Basic ability to use CAD systems (CATIA, AutoCAD) is required.
· High school diploma or equivalent.
PREFERED:
· Trade School or college courses in related fields (e.g., CMM. Blueprint reading, GD&T)
· CAD certification
· Previous hands-on inspection experience operating a CMM in the aerospace industry, or manual dimensional inspection.

Candidates must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English. This position is part of a team and requires excellent communication skills. It is fast paced with daily deadlines.
Ability to traverse manufacturing facility. Able to lift 30-40 lbs. on a regular basis. Able to stand, kneel, bend, and reach over and under all equipment on a concrete floor for long periods of time. May be exposed to noise, dust, fumes, smoke (not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels).
