Hyperbaric Tech

Position Summary

Provides hyperbaric therapy to patients as ordered by physicians. Monitors and ensures the proper delivery of treatment gas as ordered. Performs duties under supervision of the Program Director, Clinical Coordinator and/or Clinical Manager. Responsible for safe and effective operation of the hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems. Monitors the patient continually during treatment for symptoms of oxygen intolerance, claustrophobia, hypoglycemic reactions, decompression sickness or any other adverse reactions to HBO therapy.

• Plans Responsible for safe delivery of hyperbaric oxygen therapy to patients and responsible for safe and effective operation of hyperbaric chamber(s) and related support systems.  
• Sets patient care priorities. Responsible for total patient care, including ear irrigation and for the safe treatment of hyperbaric oxygen treatments.  
• Plans for appropriate patient populations and manages plans of care with interdisciplinary team through ongoing collaboration and use of care plans.  
• Communicates with all the team members regarding therapeutic interventions including patient/family/significant other. Coordinates discharge and outpatient plan of care with patient/family. 
• Develops and coordinates the education plan appropriate to the patient/family learning style. Communicates plan to patient/family and interdisciplinary care teams. 
• Demonstrates critical thinking and independent decision-making, utilizing policies and procedures, standards of care and data analysis. (e.g., manage crisis prevention and intervention at a unit level.) 
• Performs comprehensive patient assessments, anticipating potential care problems and prioritizing care needs in order to effectively provide optimum care. 
• Collaborates and communicates with physicians to ensure quality care. Provides input into employee feedback process for the other members of the staff including, the Medical Director. Initiates collaboration with physician and interdisciplinary team members by effective communication of the pertinent patient information to insure continuity of care.  
• Initiates and communicates change in patient care delivery based on continual evaluation of patient progress according to outcome-based care plan. 
  Documents patient's plan of care and interventions, according to policy. Maintains accurate documentation in patient's chart including pertinent identification and therapy information. 
• Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned 

• Special Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, visitors and physicians. 
• Minimum Requirements 
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) 
  • Experience: 2 years of Hyperbaric Medicine 
  • Licensure/Certifications:  
    • Requires basic EMT, respiratory therapy, nursing assistant training, or prior military experience in hyperbaric medicine.  
    • Certification from an approved hyperbaric course. 
• Preferred Requirements 
  • Education: Associates Degree
