Job Summary
Responsible for performing clinical eye-care tasks that provide essential information for doctors to accurately evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients.
Working Hours
Monday–Friday: 7:50 AM – 5:00 PM
Occasional Saturdays: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
At least one year of experience in a medical practice
Ability to work at any assigned office location
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of medical terminology
Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant

Primary Responsibilities
Operates all assigned clinical equipment proficiently
Uses EMR to document accurate patient information, including chief complaint, history of present illness, past ocular/general history, family history, allergies, and medications
Performs preliminary evaluations: visual acuity, motility, pupil and angle assessment, confrontational visual field, applanation tonometry, manual refraction, and pupil dilation
Conducts manual lensometry to determine existing eyeglass prescriptions
Performs stereo and color vision testing for new patients
Conducts contact lens evaluations using keratometry
Performs specialized testing with visual field machine, OCT, cameras (internal/external), topographer, biometer, and pachymeter
Accurately enters all data into EMR
Maintains clean and sanitary exam rooms
Participates in opening and closing duties
Completes semi-annual competency checks
Assists as a clinical assistant/scribe when assigned
Clinical Assistant Responsibilities
Manages tasks, voicemails, and prescription communications for Dr. Mann and other doctors
Checks messages at least twice daily (AM and PM)
Handles prior authorizations, including writing letters, summarizing medication histories, and communicating with insurance companies, pharmacies, and patients
Assists with documentation and medication submissions for Dr. Mann and other doctors
Equipment Operated
Various ophthalmic testing devices and standard office equipment (computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.)
Work Environment
Requires frequent mobility and/or extended periods of sitting. Manual dexterity for computer use; occasional bending and stooping.
Mental/Physical Requirements
Work performed in a busy office setting with both desk and counter duties. Frequent interaction with employees and patients.
