Authorized Direct Support Professionals (ADSP) are responsible for teaching, assisting, and supervising the individuals in activities of daily living and in the development of independent living, economic self-sufficiency, and community integration skills. ADSPs are responsible to the CILA Managers. The position may be full-time, part-time, or sub status and may require working a variety of shifts including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
- Be at least eighteen years old, have proof of a high school diploma or G.E.D., and demonstrate an eighth-grade level of literacy on the TABE exam.
- Be able to speak and understand the English language.
- Possess a valid driver's license and car insurance.
- Successfully pass background checks through the Illinois Health Care Worker Registry, the Department of Human Services Habilitation Aide/Nurse Aide Registry, DCFS State Central Register (CANTS), the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services Sanctions List, the Illinois Sex Offender Registry for potential abuse and/or neglect charges and any other background checks as required by DHS..
- Be in good physical and mental health with no permanent limitations for lifting.
- For new hires - Upon the acceptance of the offer of employment, the employee must complete within the initial employment period a physical exam with the physician of your choice and TB testing. Prior physicals exams and TB tests conducted within a year of the hire date will be considered valid.
TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to successfully complete an approved ADSP training program within 120 days of hire as a ADSP or show proof of completion from prior employment.
- Must have their ADSP training record added to the Health Care Worker Registry within 30 days of completing an approved ADSP training program and have the designation "DD Aide" on the Health Care Worker Registry.
- Must have or be able to successfully earn certification in first aid and CPR and complete OIG Rule 50 training, Behavior Training, and any other new hire training requirements.
- Must successfully complete a medication administration training program specified by DHS and taught by a Nurse Trainer.
Duties and responsibilities of the ADSP will include, but not limited to:
- Follow posted work schedule as assigned.
- Follow all policies and procedures of ABRA.
- Supervise and assist as assigned on Task Sheets with all personal care and housekeeping procedures for the individuals and complete proper documentation.
- Advocate for the individual's rights and assist them in exercising their rights.
- Assist individuals with integrating into the community including recreational, vocational, personal, and family activities.
- Assist in medical appointments and/or any community related activities, i.e., shopping, recreational events.
- Be able to transport the individuals using an agency vehicle and complete mileage logs.
- Complete At Home activities as assigned or as part of the individual's daily schedule.
- Participate as part of the individual's Support Team to identify the individual's needs and make recommendations for IS.
- Assist in training inexperienced and/or new staff in their duties and responsibilities at the house they are scheduled to work and implement on-the-job training.
- Attend mandatory house meetings, applicable in-service trainings, and complete any competencies to meet DHS's annual training requirements
- Obtain or provide assistance in an emergency or crisis situation.
Full-time and part-time employees are required to attend regularly scheduled house meetings, in-service trainings and complete any training competencies. This includes the annual reevaluation by the Nurse-Trainer, maintaining CPR and first aid certification, and any other training as specified by the agency or DHS.
Sub status employees are encouraged to attend regularly scheduled house meetings in-service trainings and complete any training competencies. If a substitute is unable to attend these trainings or house meetings, a substitute may read the notes and complete any training competencies. Substitutes must be annually reevaluated by the Nurse-Trainer, maintain CPR and first aid certification, and any other training as specified by the agency or DHS.
