Job Summary

The GRO Facility Child Care Giver (Direct Care Service) is responsible for providing direct supervision and daily care to children in a residential setting. This position ensures children’s safety, supports their emotional and developmental growth, and implements individualized service plans. Caregivers play a critical role in creating a stable, structured, and supportive environment for every child.

Qualifications

Age Requirement

• Must be at least 21 years old

Education

• High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution, or documented proof of high school equivalency (including homeschooling documentation)

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with children, staff, and professionals
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain safety standards
• Ability to build rapport with children and foster positive relationships
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a structured residential setting

Key Responsibilities

Child Supervision & Safety

• Maintain continuous supervision of assigned children
• Ensure children remain within sight or sound as appropriate
• Monitor activities to maintain safety and well-being
• Intervene appropriately when safety concerns arise

Individualized Care & Development

• Respond to each child’s habits, interests, and specific needs
• Provide a safe, clean, and structured environment
• Encourage age-appropriate independence and positive behavior
• Reinforce achievements and constructive behaviors

Communication & Team Collaboration

• Communicate shift updates regarding children’s needs and behaviors
• Collaborate with staff, parents, and service providers
• Implement and follow individualized service plans
• Report concerns or progress to supervisors

Supervision During Activities

• Monitor and track children participating in activities
• Ensure clear communication about off-site activities
• Confirm transportation arrangements when required
• Remain available for emergencies

Documentation & Progress Notes

• Complete daily progress notes for children receiving treatment services
• Ensure documentation is accurate, timely, signed, and dated
• Maintain compliance with regulatory and organizational standards

Overnight Care & Visits

• Provide supervision, meals, and lodging during overnight care
• Share emergency medical procedures with responsible parties
• Ensure health and safety during off-site or overnight activities

Emergency Response

• Respond promptly to emergency situations
• Follow all established emergency protocols
• Ensure children receive immediate care when needed

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout shifts
• Ability to lift children or equipment when necessary
• Ability to remain alert and responsive at all times

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in a residential child-care setting
• Indoor and outdoor supervision required
• Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and possible on-call duties

Compensation

• Competitive pay based on experience and qualifications
