Role Overview
Ability is seeking a highly motivated actuary to support the growth and ongoing operations of its insurance solutions platform. This role may be filled at the Actuarial Associate or Associate Actuary level, depending on experience. This is a lean, high-impact role with broad exposure across annuity pricing, reinsurance transactions, capital and accounting analysis, regulatory and audit support, and day-to-day platform execution. It is well suited for someone who is self-motivated, intellectually curious, comfortable learning new areas with guidance, and willing to work across actuarial and adjacent business responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Support pricing and maintenance of models for direct-writing and reinsurance business, with emphasis on MYGA and FIA and exposure to life and pre-need reinsurance.
• Assist with FIA development work, including product design, assumptions, model updates, and profitability analysis.
• Build and review cash flow projections, IRR analysis, capital strain assessments, and earnings analysis for new business and transactions.
• Analyze statutory, GAAP, and economic outcomes to support pricing, structuring, and management decision-making.
• Support regulator letter preparation and audit support, along with capital planning, investment analysis, and accounting-related work.
• Partner with finance, accounting, investments, legal, and operations on execution and ongoing business management.
• Prepare management materials, transaction analyses, and other presentations for internal stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
• Bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, or another quantitative field.
• 2-4 years of actuarial experience preferred.
• Typically 2-4 actuarial exams passed, with strong commitment to pursuing ASA/FSA designation; ASA is preferred for more experienced candidates and may support hiring at the Associate Actuary level.
• Experience or knowledge of annuity products preferred; direct exposure to MYGA, FIA, reinsurance pricing, or annuity valuation is a plus.
• Knowledge of GAAP LDTI and VM-22 and broader annuity reserving and capital concepts preferred; experience with AG33 or VM-21 is a plus.
• Strong Python skills preferred; experience in actuarial software like GGY/Prophet/Pathwise is a plus.
• Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a lean, fast-moving environment.
