WORK SCHEDULE: 32 - 37.5 HOURS PER WEEK - FLEXIBLE [Additional hours (including weekends) may be needed as dictated by position, events, and activities.]

BASIC FUNCTION: The Mission Engagement Specialist (MES) is responsible for expanding the organization’s reach by cultivating partnerships with businesses and strengthening connections within the community. This position plays a dual role: driving growth for the organization’s business services—including contract fulfillment, electronics recycling, and thrift social enterprises—while also serving as the primary representative at community events, civic networks, and local associations. The MES will identify and develop mutually beneficial relationships with businesses to support revenue growth and service delivery, while also fostering trust, visibility, and collaboration with community stakeholders. Acting as a public-facing ambassador, the MES ensures the organization is well-represented in both business and community arenas, aligning all efforts with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Business Development

1. Identify and cultivate relationships with businesses that align with organizational goals through outreach efforts including cold-calling, in-person networking, and digital communication.

2. Develop and maintain partnerships that create opportunities for program support, service expansion, and revenue growth.

3. Represent the organization at chamber meetings, BID events, and business networking functions.

4. Develop and deliver professional presentations to businesses and partners that highlight organizational services and opportunities for collaboration.

5. Promote and develop partnerships for the organization’s business services, including contract fulfillment, electronics recycling, and thrift social enterprises.

6. Research, track, and maintain a database of business contacts, partnerships, and outcomes to ensure accurate reporting and follow-up.

7. Collaborate with internal teams to determine needs and communicate potential opportunities as they align with business services and organizational goals.

8. Monitor and evaluate the success of business partnerships, making recommendations for improvement or expansion.

Community Development

1. Represent the organization as the primary liaison at community-based events, fairs, and outreach opportunities.

2. Build and sustain relationships with civic leaders, nonprofit organizations, and community groups.

3. Increase organizational visibility by developing and implementing strategies for public engagement and awareness.

4. Support the planning, promotion, and participation in community events that advance the mission and values of the organization.

5. Collect and share community feedback to inform program development and service delivery.

6. Collaborate with leadership and communications staff to ensure outreach activities and community presence are consistently and effectively promoted.

7. Maintain records of community engagement activities, partnerships, and outcomes to support evaluation and reporting.

8. Act as an ambassador of the organization, demonstrating professionalism and alignment with the organization’s mission and values.

9. Provide staff and leadership with regular updates on community trends, needs, and opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/SKILLS

· Bachelor’s degree in business, communications, marketing, nonprofit management, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience.

· 2 years of experience in business development, community engagement, or external relations preferred.

· Strong networking, relationship-building, and communication skills with diverse audiences.

· Ability to represent the organization professionally in business and community settings.

· Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.

· Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

· Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for community events.

EXPOSURE CATEGORY:

Category 1: Minimal opportunity for exposure to blood borne pathogens exists.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers/scanners.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to speak and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position may require lifting and long periods of standing.

TRAVEL:

Travel to Abilities locations will be required. Travel may also be required for certain training events as mandated by the state. You may be eligible for mileage reimbursement.

Pay: $19.50 per hour
