Position Summary

The Funds & Grants Consultant plays a critical and strategic role in supporting clients as they navigate the complex landscape of grant funding, financial stewardship, and regulatory compliance. Operating within our advisory and accounting services practice, this position provides end-to-end expertise—from identifying and pursuing high-value funding opportunities to managing post-award requirements, financial reporting, and audit readiness.

This consultant serves as a trusted advisor, combining technical accounting knowledge with strategic insight to help organizations maximize funding, strengthen internal controls, and maintain full compliance with federal, state, local, and private grantor requirements. The role requires exceptional analytical capability and the ability to translate complex financial and regulatory standards into clear, actionable guidance for clients.

A successful candidate will bring a proactive mindset, attention to detail, high professionalism, and a strong client-service orientation. This position collaborates closely with internal accounting teams, cross-functional specialists, and client leadership to ensure grant portfolios are optimized, spending is accurately monitored, and all documentation, budgets, and reporting deliverables meet the firm’s standards of quality and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

1. Grant Strategy & Acquisition

  • Research federal, state, local, and private grant opportunities that align with client priorities and operational goals.
  • Develop grant calendars, application timelines, and competitive proposal strategies.
  • Prepare, write, and package grant applications, supporting narratives, financial documentation, and required attachments.
  • Advise clients on eligibility, funding trends, compliance risks, and long-term sustainability considerations.

2. Grant Management & Compliance

  • Support clients through the full grant lifecycle, overseeing reporting schedules, budget adherence, and required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance, agency regulations, award-specific terms, and audit expectations.
  • Coordinate budget revisions, no-cost extensions, and communications with funding agencies.
  • Develop and refine internal control processes to safeguard grant funds and reinforce compliance.

3. Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare and review grant budgets, cash flow projections, reimbursement submissions, and utilization reports.
  • Track, reconcile, and monitor grant expenditures in alignment with approved budgets and allowable costs.
  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial grant reports for clients and funders.
  • Support single audits, grant-specific audits, and internal financial reviews.

4. Client Advisory & Relationship Management

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert in grants, fund accounting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide training and guidance to client teams on grant management, reporting, and internal controls.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with clients through proactive communication and advisory support.
  • Collaborate with internal accounting, tax, and consulting teams to deliver integrated and high-quality services.

5. Acting as a Subject-Matter Expert (SME) for Closing Deals

  • Provide expert guidance during client engagements and pre-sales discussions, particularly in identifying funding opportunities and financial compliance requirements that impact deal structures.
  • Support business development teams by serving as the technical SME on grant and fund-related components of proposals.
  • Ensure client commitments and deliverables are realistic, well-documented, and positioned for successful approval and funding.
  • Act as a trusted advisor in negotiations, providing insight on risk mitigation, compliance, and financial reporting considerations that strengthen client confidence and deal outcomes.
