What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Toddler Teacher position at ABC Academy?
At ABC Academy, we believe childhood is a time for wonder, joy, and discovery. We are a vibrant, licensed learning community proudly serving families in Milton and St. Albans, Vermont. Our nurturing, play-based environment empowers children (from 6 weeks to 8th grade across our campuses) to learn through hands-on exploration, curiosity, and connection—with their peers, educators, families, and the natural world around them.
Whether we're splashing in puddles, crafting with clay, reading under a tree, or learning to solve problems together, each day at ABC Academy is filled with purpose, joy, and growth. If you are an educator who believes children should be seen, supported, and celebrated, you belong with the ABC family!
The Role
We are seeking a warm, attentive, and collaborative Early Childhood Educator to support children in our nurturing, nature-rich environment. This role centers on responsive teaching, sensory exploration, relationship-based learning, and outdoor experiences grounded in child development and play-based education.
What You Will Do:
Create Joyful Learning: Facilitate developmentally appropriate, play-based learning experiences using nature as an extension of your classroom.
Explore the Outdoors: Guide children through outdoor experiences in all Vermont seasons, including gardening, nature walks, water play, loose parts play, and sensory exploration.
Foster Development: Support language, literacy, and social-emotional growth through conversation, songs, storytelling, dramatic play, and shared experiences. Promote physical development through climbing, balancing, digging, and outdoor movement.
Nurture Relationships: Provide consistent, gentle guidance that fosters children's emotional security, confidence, and emerging independence.
Who You Are
A Development Expert: You deeply understand early childhood development, emotional regulation, and relationship-based teaching.
A Nature Enthusiast: You delight in messy play, sensory exploration, storytelling, and outdoor experiences in all seasons. You are comfortable supporting children in nature-rich environments with active supervision and thoughtful risk assessment.
An Attuned Caregiver: You are calm, patient, flexible, and emotionally attuned to young children's needs.
A Team Player: You are a collaborative educator who values building strong, authentic relationships with children, families, and your colleagues.
