JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for leadership role in providing a safe, structured, environment that meets the needs of the Unaccompanied Alien Children (UC's) while always maintaining professional and acceptable boundaries. Responsible for the actions of all Youth Specialists and their daily interactions with the children. Ensures a safe and therapeutic environment as well adherence to the rules and policies set forth by the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). 

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides supervision to Youth Specialists including training of new staff.
  • Conducts regular individual and group supervisor sessions.
  • Documents all personnel issues in conjunction with agency policy.
  • Monitors and ensures that the unit log is appropriately completed by staff.
  • Monitors and ensures proper use of agency van and completion of the van log.
  • Monitors maintenance needs of unit and ensures timely maintenance requests.
  • Monitors cleanliness and appearance of unit and ensures proper supplies.
  • Inventories children’s clothing and ensures that their clothing needs are met.
  • Participates appropriately in weekly Treatment Team meetings and monthly treatment conferences.
  • Acts as a positive role model for residents and staff.
  • Maintains an on-going staff schedule and ensures replacement coverage as needed.
  • Coordinates services with other agency departments.
  • Maintains effective collegial relationships with Case Manager and Site Supervisor.
  • Establishes and monitors compliance with federal, agency, departmental and unit policies, procedures, and routines.
  • Monitors that the individual and special needs of the children are met.
  • Monitors and ensures provisions of a varied and appropriate recreational program.
  • Demonstrates group management and crisis intervention skills.
  • Monitors compliance with fire drill and fire alarm procedures.
  • Coordinates appropriate educational programming.
  • Monitors the use of agency funds for recreation, allowance, clothing, etc., and ensures the provision of appropriate coverage.
  • Assists with the schedules and monitoring staff training for the department.
  • Maintain training certifications as instructed by the Director/Agency Trainer.
  • Monitor Youth staff good work ethic.
  • Attend all meetings.
  • Complete all ORR & Abbott House mandatory training on a timely basis.
  • Any other related duties as required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

An employee in this position is regularly required to stand; walk, use hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and listen, and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to walk.  The employee is occasionally required to keep balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Computer – The Unit Supervisor must be able to use a computer and able to learn software programs
  • Office Equipment- The Unit Supervisor is required to operate a fax, copier, scan, and other office equipment.
  • Communication - The Unit Supervisor needs to be able to speak, read and write fluently in the English language
  • Writing - The Unit Supervisor must be able to write in the English language using correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc.
  • Driving - The Unit Supervisor must have a valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.
  • Lifting - The Unit Supervisor may frequently lift 0-25 lbs., occasionally lift 25-50 lbs., and rarely lift over 50 lbs.
  • Push/Pull - The Unit Supervisor may frequently push/pull 0-25 lbs. of force, occasionally push/pull 26-45 lbs. force, and rarely push/pull over 45 lbs.
  • Sitting, Standing and Walking The Unit Supervisor will be required to sit, stand and walk throughout the work day.
  • Stooping -The Unit Supervisor may occasionally stoop.  This is defined as bending body downward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling -The Unit Supervisor may occasionally kneel.  This is defined as bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s).
  • Crouching - The Unit Supervisor may occasionally crouch.  This is defined as bending body downward and forward by bending spine and legs.
  • Work environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in an office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate due to talk and movement of the program participants and other co- workers.  The noise level can increase on occasion due to yelling or screaming by the participants of the programs.
Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in Spanish and English required, both written and oral.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills both written and oral.
  • Ability to demonstrate counseling techniques and genuine sensitivity to children and families of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with ORR population and at least 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

HOURS AND TIME OF WORK

Full-Time- 40 Hours per week

Salary : $66,000 - $69,000
