Are you a goal-orientated person with a passion for systems and achieving positive outcomes for students, older adult volunteers, and communities? The AARP Foundation Experience Corps team is looking for you! Our team supports virtual tutors across the country as they volunteer their time tutoring students to become better readers by the end of third grade. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in program management, volunteer management, and documentation. We'll challenge you to think and work innovatively on real-world projects. AARP is committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. This paid internship starts in the Summer of 2025 and can continue through the end of the year, with the potential for an extension.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and improve existing program systems, processes, and workflow documentation to create a user-friendly guide for program and site operations
  • Assist as an initial point of contact for prospective volunteers in virtual tutoring programs, including providing informational sessions, conducting volunteer interviews, checking references, and placing volunteers
  • Work with virtual tutoring team members to support volunteers in adopting technology, including collecting accurate data, delivering volunteer and student-level reports, supporting virtual tutoring sessions, creating how-to guides, and hosting office hours for volunteers
  • Research and recommend program and technology tools to improve program efficiency, communication systems, and volunteer management—present recommendations to the virtual tutoring team for continuous improvement and develop an implementation plan based on these recommendations
  • Develop a system for volunteer accountability and fidelity to the program model, including AARP Foundation technology systems
  • Coordinate with AARP Foundation staff to collaborate and promote the virtual tutoring model internally and with external stakeholders
  • Participate in team meetings and strategy discussions, collaborate in communications tactics, and engage in a support role for various remote and in-person events
  • Identify potential partners for program growth and connect with local partners for the continuance of program implementation

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • Preference is given to candidates residing in the DC or CA area
  • Some experience with education, volunteer management, older adults, or technology adoption preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities. Must be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • This position supports people in multiple time zones, with an understanding of remote and hybrid. Some evening availability is preferred
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office and programs, Google Suite, and virtual conferencing tools
  • Ability to navigate digital resources and create virtual communication and volunteer management systems

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation And Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
