Job Description: School-Based Physical Therapist

Status: Full Time

Job Summary: This School-Based Physical Therapist is responsible for organizing and implementing a physical therapy program for exceptional education students and providing physical therapy as outlined in laws and policies. Must demonstrate strong skills in partnering with families.

Qualifications:

Masters Degree in Physical Therapy

Current PA State License as a Physical Therapist

Current (dated within a year) Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Screen, assess, and evaluate students using appropriate tests and assessment instruments.
  • Plan and provide appropriate specialized physical therapy techniques through individual and/or group sessions designed to meet the educational needs of the student consistent with physical therapy goals contained in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary meetings to develop Individual Education Plans.
  • Evaluate student progress and determine readiness for termination of therapy services.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom based activities.
  • Counsel and involve parents in the physical therapy program of their child.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required in accordance with federal and state law, PDE rules, and school policy to include documentation for the need for equipment and materials.
  • Meet the needs of all students effectively by working in partnership with other disciplines.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, PDE rules, and school policy.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of research, theories, and practices associated with the area of school-based physical therapy.
  • Complete IEP paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Implement Intervention Program.
  • Develop and maintain the instructional component of the IEP according to the results of the evaluation and ongoing assessment of progress.
  • Develop long-range goals and specific objectives.
  • Complete daily notes for each student in a timely manner.
  • Include methods and materials in planning.
  • Document student progress, attendance, etc.
  • Use a variety of approaches and materials to address the IEP that are compatible with the student’s age and interest, and abilities.
  • Maintain ongoing assessment to verify progress toward established goals.
  • Provide therapeutic intervention with students to enhance student performance.
  • Maintain communication with the building faculty regarding the role of the PT, as well as to provide support and consultation.
  • Maintain a physical environment conducive to learning.
  • Stay abreast of and implement new instructional strategies.
  • Attend workshops and in-service training to obtain up-to-date information in the area of speech and language and maintain required certifications and licensure.
  • Travel between campuses as needed and directed.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $80,000.00 per year
