RECOVERY RESIDENT AIDE JOB DESCRIPTION
SUMMARY: The Recovery Resident Aide is a key team member at A Step to Freedom’s Recovery Housing program, supporting a safe, stable, and community-oriented environment for residents. This role combines resident engagement with essential responsibilities related to maintaining the cleanliness and overall order of the home.
As the on-site support person, the Recovery Resident Aide works closely with participants to uphold daily routines, enforce house guidelines, and promote a peaceful, home-like atmosphere. The Recovery Resident Aide also ensures that common areas and resident spaces remain clean, organized, and welcoming—helping to create a dignified environment that supports healing, independence, and well-being.
Please note: This is a recovery site, designed to provide a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment where individuals can focus on their healing and rebuild stability for their sobriety.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Participant Engagement & Residential Oversight
⦁ Supervise and monitor the daily activities of up to 24 participants using a trauma-informed, recovery-centered culture..
⦁ Welcome and orient new participants to house expectations, including curfew, shared space guidelines, smoking areas, and program rules.
⦁ Support participants with day-to-day needs, including adherence to medication schedules, curfews, and community responsibilities.
⦁ Conduct hourly room checks, regular head counts, and perimeter walkthroughs to ensure safety and accountability.
⦁ Assist with the coordination of life skills activities, group discussions, and peer engagement events.
⦁ Monitor participants' behaviors and moods. Working collaboratively with case managers and reporting changes in behavior.
⦁ Document all notable activities, incidents, and participant updates in logbooks, incident reports, and communication platforms.
⦁ Encourage participants to stay focused on their recovery while fostering
⦁ Monitor and maintain compliance with overnight pass protocols and other program procedures.
Site Cleanliness Responsibilities
⦁ Ensure all common areas (kitchen, living room, dining area, bathrooms) remain clean, tidy, and organized throughout the shift.
⦁ Encourage and support residents in completing their assigned household chores.
⦁ Perform light housekeeping tasks such as wiping down surfaces, tidying shared spaces, and resetting furniture or supplies as needed.
⦁ Oversee the cleanliness of bedrooms during room checks and provide reminders or coaching to participants about maintaining personal space.
⦁ Help maintain overall order and cleanliness of the facility in alignment with health and hygiene standards.
⦁ Restock and monitor cleaning supplies, hygiene kits, and basic household necessities.
⦁ Ensure meal areas are clean before and after food service.
Safety & Site Support
⦁ Ensure site safety protocols are followed, including locking gates, securing entrances, and monitoring for prohibited behavior or items.
⦁ Support shift coverage and staff communication through participation in meetings, check-ins, and scheduled updates.
⦁ Recognize behavioral changes that may signal substance use or relapse.
⦁ Model and promote respectful communication, personal responsibility, and a shared sense of community within the residence.
⦁ Respond to crisis situations using de-escalation protocols and procedures.
Other Requirements
⦁ Up to date TB test Clearing Resident Aid to Work with at risk participants
⦁ Food Handlers must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment. The organization will provide the training if you do not have a current certification.
⦁ CPR / First Aid Certification must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment. The organization will provide the training if you do not have a current certification.
⦁ RADT/Peer Support Certification
Qualifications
⦁ High School Diploma or equivalent required.
⦁ Experience working in recovery housing, transitional living, sober living, or social services with an emphasis on recovery and substance abuse populations. (Required)
⦁ Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with vulnerable populations and team members in a compassionate and professional manner.
⦁ Comfortable performing housekeeping duties and supporting participants in maintaining a clean and safe home environment.
⦁ Demonstrates knowledge of chemical dependency, addiction, and recovery principles.
⦁ Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
Physical Requirements
⦁ Employees are expected to move about the worksite throughout the day, which involves walking, standing and climbing stairs.
⦁ The employee is expected to carry a maximum of 50lbs.
