Position Title: Contract Drug & Alcohol Counselor (ASAM 3.1 Residential)
Status: Independent Contractor
Reports To: Clinical Director / Program Director
Position Summary:
The Drug and Alcohol Counselor provides clinical services to individuals in a Level 3.1 residential treatment setting. The counselor is responsible for delivering substance use counseling, facilitating group sessions, completing clinical documentation, and supporting clients in achieving recovery goals. Services are provided in accordance with ASAM criteria, CARF standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual and group counseling services to clients with substance use disorders
- Facilitate psychoeducational and process groups (minimum weekly requirements based on program structure)
- Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans
- Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation (assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries)
- Support clients in relapse prevention planning and coping skill development
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including peer support and case management staff
- Participate in case conferences and team meetings as required
- Provide crisis intervention and support as needed
- Ensure all services are delivered in compliance with ASAM 3.1 level of care and CARF standards
Qualifications:
- Certification as a CAC-AD (Certified Associate Counselor–Alcohol and Drug) or higher (LCPC, LCSW, etc.)
- Experience working with substance use and/or co-occurring disorders
- Knowledge of ASAM criteria and residential treatment settings
- Strong documentation and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently as a contractor
Contract Expectations:
- Provide a minimum of 5 hours of clinical services per client per week (as required for ASAM 3.1)
- Maintain active licensure/certification and liability insurance
- Submit documentation within required timeframes
- Adhere to all program policies, confidentiality standards (HIPAA), and ethical guidelines
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in residential or community-based treatment programs
- Familiarity with evidence-based practices (CBT, relapse prevention, motivational interviewing)
- Strong communication and engagement skills
Work Schedule:
Flexible schedule based on program needs and client census
Pay: $24.45 - $29.44 per hour
