JOB SUMMARY
The Credentialing & Privileging Specialist is responsible for supporting medical staff credentialing and privileging activities in a healthcare setting. This position reviews provider information and documentation, maintains accurate credentialing records, and ensures required processes are completed in accordance with established policies and regulatory standards.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage and maintain provider credentialing and privileging files and documentation.
- Review provider applications, licenses, certifications, education, training, and other required credentials for completeness and accuracy.
- Coordinate credentialing and privileging activities with providers, medical staff offices, departments, and external organizations.
- Track expiration dates and ensure timely renewal of licenses, certifications, and other provider credentials.
- Verify provider information and follow established credentialing and privileging procedures.
- Review and respond to detailed written and oral instructions while maintaining confidentiality and accuracy.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical records and update credentialing databases as required.
- Prepare reports, correspondence, spreadsheets, and other documentation using Microsoft Word, Excel, and related software.
- Communicate with providers and internal departments to obtain missing or updated documentation.
- Support audits and ensure credentialing records are maintained according to organizational requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's Degree AND a minimum of 3 years of credentialing/privileging experience in a medical setting.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to read, understand, and respond accurately to detailed oral and written instructions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Previous clinical healthcare experience such as CNA, Medical Assistant (MA), or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN).
- Experience working with provider credentialing, privileging, medical staff services, or healthcare compliance processes.
- Familiarity with healthcare documentation, regulatory requirements, and provider records.
