Radio Communications Technician (P25)

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Radio Communications Technician to support the development, maintenance, and deployment of programming templates for mission-critical public safety radio systems.
This role is responsible for creating and maintaining P25 radio programming files, managing radio IDs, talkgroups, encryption configurations, and supporting asset management activities. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Motorola and Kenwood P25 radios and a strong background in two-way radio communications.
Key Responsibilities
Radio Programming & Configuration
- Develop and maintain programming templates for P25 public safety radios.
- Configure and program Motorola and Kenwood P25 radio systems.
- Identify and assign Radio IDs, Talkgroups, and Encryption Keys.
- Create and maintain standardized programming files for deployment.
- Ensure programming accuracy and compliance with established standards.
System & Asset Management
- Maintain accurate radio programming records and documentation.
- Enter and update information within enterprise asset management (EAM) systems and supporting databases.
- Track radio assets and configuration changes.
- Support inventory accuracy and lifecycle management of communication equipment.
Technical Support
- Troubleshoot programming and configuration issues.
- Validate programming prior to deployment.
- Support installation and maintenance of radio templates.
- Assist with encryption management and secure communications.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate technical documentation.
- Ensure data integrity across programming files and asset databases.
- Follow established operational procedures and security protocols.
- Perform work independently with minimal supervision.
Required Qualifications
- 3 years of experience as a Radio/Communications Technician.
- 2 years of hands-on experience programming P25 radio systems.
- Experience programming Motorola and Kenwood radios.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to accurately manage technical data.
- Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
- Military communications experience.
- Public safety communications experience.
- Two-way radio programming and support.
- Experience with P25 encryption and Key Management Facility (KMF).
- Experience managing Radio IDs and Talkgroups.
- Knowledge of public safety radio communications systems.
Certifications
One or more of the following is preferred:
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL)
- APCO Certification
- Equivalent industry certification
