Job Summary
The Operations Manager plans, directs, coordinates, and oversees all lawn care, landscape projects, snow removal and equipment maintenance. Manager responsibilities include labor requirement determinations and adjustments; quality control and customer service; inventory management; budget development; technical consultation; contract negotiations and regulatory compliance.
- Oversee, direct, and manage lawn care activities, hardscape projects, landscape projects, snow removal, maintenance operations and shop space.
- Forecast, develop, and assist with operating budgets; ensure fiscal responsibility; identify and assist with cost containment measures; monitor efficiency and productivity; research and requisition equipment and supplies
- Develop, implement, and facilitate quality control and environmental protection programs
- Advise senior management on matters related to areas of operation
- Provide technical consultation; consult and collaborate with sales team, designers, customers, contractors, vendors, and suppliers, etc.
- Negotiate internal service contracts; ensure quality customer service; resolve or refer issues
- Keep abreast of industry trends and regulatory requirements; develop operational changes, policies, and procedures; establish and communicate standards; manage compliance including licensing, certifications, and training; adapt organizational structure as needed
- Train, coach, supervise, schedule, and evaluate employees; plan and coordinate professional development opportunities
- Encounters varied and complex problems. Helps to develop creative and/or novel approaches to resolve problems that are difficult in nature but within limited scope. Assists upper management to modify, adapt, or refine guidelines if necessary to resolve issues or problems
- Works independently on complex or strategic assignments. Uses existing practices and advanced working knowledge to determine appropriate work methods for the team. Reviews completed work of others for conformity to policy, and effectiveness of approach. Delegates advanced tasks to others
- Communicates with both internal and external audiences. Collaborates closely with team members. Prepares written and/or verbal presentations or proposals on complex issues. Presents ideas, concepts and instructions in a clear manner, and uses persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and cooperation. Establishes and maintains networks to facilitate successful communication among units.
Position Requirements
-Must be a self-starter
-Unrestricted driver’s license
-Ability to drive trucks and trailers
-Reliable transportation to and from work
-Ability to lift 50 pounds
-Ability to work in inclement weather conditions when required
-Ability to perform labor intensive tasks
-Ability to work 8-10 hour days, some evenings and overtime. Winter hours vary
-Ability to work in a team environment
-Ability to follow directions
-3 years of experience minimum with leading and training crews in the green industry
-3 years of equipment experience.
-Willingness to learn new skills
-Proficient with Microsoft office and CRM software
Preferred Skills/Experience
-Bachelor’s degree preferred
-Experience managing lawn care, landscaping, snow removal and deicing operations
-Managing up to 10 people including first line managers
-MDOT physical card
