Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, managing front desk operations, scheduling appointments, and ensuring smooth administrative workflows. This role requires excellent communication skills, proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and a strong understanding of medical terminology and billing procedures. Prior clinic or medical office experience is preferred to ensure efficient handling of patient interactions and administrative tasks within a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and professionally, providing exceptional patient service at the front desk.
- Manage appointment scheduling using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, or Eaglesoft.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification processes accurately.
- Collect patient information, update medical records, and review documentation for completeness and accuracy.
- Handle multi-line phone systems with proper phone etiquette, directing calls appropriately.
- Assist with intake procedures, including data entry and patient check-in/out processes.
- Maintain organized filing of medical records and ensure confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support medical billing and coding activities, including CPT and ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), ensuring accurate documentation review.
- Facilitate communication between patients and healthcare providers regarding care plans and follow-up appointments.
- Perform administrative support tasks such as data entry, typing (including 10-key typing), filing, and document management using Microsoft Office tools.
- Ensure compliance with health information management standards and clinic policies.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in medical billing, coding (CPT, ICD), insurance verification, and documentation review.
- Familiarity with medical terminology across various specialties including dental terminology if applicable.
- Experience with HIPAA regulations to maintain patient confidentiality securely.
- Excellent customer service skills coupled with professional phone etiquette in handling multi-line phone systems.
- Ability to manage administrative tasks efficiently with strong organizational skills.
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
- Prior clinic or medical office experience is highly desirable to ensure seamless integration into healthcare workflows.
