Responsibilities
- Utilize your own personal vehicle for transportation to and from the individual home.
- Provide personalized support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders
- Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as grooming, dressing, and mobility
- Support communication efforts using techniques like American Sign Language or other augmentative methods as needed
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors
- Facilitate community outings, appointments, and recreational activities safely using standard passenger cars or personal transportation assistance
- Maintain clear and respectful client communication to foster trust and understanding
- Document progress, incidents, and service activities accurately in compliance with agency protocols
- Collaborate with families, caregivers, and team members to ensure comprehensive support tailored to each individual’s needs
Qualifications
- Experience working with individuals with autism, intellectual disabilities, or neurodevelopmental disorders is highly preferred
- Knowledge of special education principles and behavioral health practices
- Ability to operate a standard passenger car safely and responsibly for client transportation
- Prior experience in home and community care environments is advantageous
- Familiarity with assisting clients with ADLs and supporting those with cognitive disabilities
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members
- Certification in first aid and CPR is required or obtainable upon hire
- Personal transportation assistance experience is a plus
- Compassionate caregiving attitude combined with patience, adaptability, and a positive outlook
