Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers and heavy haul trucks, including flatbed, dump truck, roll-off truck, and forklift-equipped vehicles
- Load and unload freight efficiently using appropriate equipment and techniques, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit
- Drive route-specific deliveries across regional or long-distance routes, adhering to schedules and traffic regulations
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights, tires, and load securement
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and delivery documentation in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients to coordinate pickups and deliveries or resolve issues promptly
- Assist with special transport requirements such as refrigerated loads or oversized freight requiring precise handling
Skills
- Proven experience driving commercial trucks with manual transmission preferred for enhanced control
- Knowledge of operating specialized equipment like forklifts or dump trucks is a plus
- Familiarity with different trailer types including flatbed, tanker, refrigerated trailers, and roll-off trucks
- Strong understanding of load securement techniques for various freight types to ensure safety during transit
- Excellent route planning skills to optimize delivery times while complying with transportation laws
- Ability to perform detailed vehicle inspections and basic maintenance checks
- Exceptional driving skills with a focus on safety, precision, and professionalism in all situations
